RVA folks, show up TOMORROW at 6:15 AM to urge @abigailspanberger.com and the General Assembly to pass all ICE Out bills HB1438 to fully end 287(g), no courthouse arrests, and ICE out of schools to fully protect our communities! Protect our communities.
It will be dark and cold, but we can do what Minnesotans are doing every day! Organizers are hoping for a big turnout — share with your Richmond area friends! #ICEOut

Elections have consequences, good news for VA: This week @abigailspanberger.com ordered “four state agencies, including the state police and the Department of Corrections, to end their 287(g) agreements”!
Virginia’s New Governor Ends ICE Program. Local Contracts Remain, For Now. - Bolts
Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

Check out this 🧵 for a quick transportation advocacy opportunity!
🚨 Advocacy opp! VDOT has created a plan to redesign the W. Main / Ridge intersection to improve traffic flow + provide protected bike lanes and many pedestrian upgrades. It’s not perfect but it’s WAY better than what is there now, and it’s designed to get state funding to get it built.

This vote buys time, not solutions. The fight is now squarely on DHS and Republicans are on their back foot. Democrats have less than two weeks to press their advantage — they must hold the line and refuse to fund DHS without ironclad limits on ICE and CBP.
House votes to end partial government shutdown, setting up contentious talks on ICE
The House has approved a spending bill to end a short-lived partial government shutdown. Now lawmakers will begin contentious negotiations over new guardrails for immigration enforcement.

As state violence increases and the need to protect free and fair elections grows, we expect future protests to be larger, and potentially more frequent. That means we need more marshals!

TIME SENSITIVE ACTION: Historically, organized labor has achieved gains that extend far beyond its own membership (ie limits on child labor, the 40-hour workweek). These gains depend on workers’ right to collective bargaining, a right that Virginia’s public sector employees currently do not have.

There is no fixing this. There is no training nor reform that will mitigate this. #AbolishICE. No funding for DHS. Call/email/contact @markwarner.bsky.social and @kaine.senate.gov (if you can get through bc Kaine seems to make it as difficult as possible). #ICEoutForGood.
Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

Minnesota organizers want us to help turn up the heat on the state's biggest regime-friendly corporations. Contact Target, Hilton, Enterprise, Home Depot, and Delta Airlines to demand they take action to get ICE out of our communities FOR GOOD.

The Haven is truly a lynchpin of our community. Please support their vital work during this bitterly cold weather if you can.
(How many of you remember 9 years ago this week gathering at the Haven for the very first Indivisible Charlottesville meeting?)
Our friends at The Haven just sent a message asking for donations to support over 80 community members who are homeless that The Haven and other partners have placed in hotels during this winter weather. They need to raise $27k. Please consider donating today.

Senators have a choice next week: They can vote for a DHS funding bill that gives ICE and CBP more money to brutalize our neighbors, or they can say ENOUGH. We must demand our senators refuse to give ICE & CBP one more penny or vote for any bill that won’t get these thugs the fuck out of our cities.

It is increasingly clear that stripping the Department of Homeland Security down to the studs — ICE, Border Patrol, all of it — is the minimum we must do when we regain power.

But we can’t afford to wait that long to rein in these agencies.

Yesterday, thousands of people in MN and across the country chose resistance —however small it may seem in relation to another life lost—and their actions still carry weight. Even in the face of brutality, we don’t give up, we don't allow despair and anger to take away our power nor our humanity.
