The bare minimum that Albemarle County can do to show it is serious about housing is to seriously follow its own Comprehensive Plan
yay for more housing! boo for the density being reduced to half the recommended density in the comp plan. I wouldn't say it is going to be developed "densely" at 9.6 units/acre (up to 34 units/acre is what the comp plan recommends)

Not only did I meet lots of nice people at this evening's @livablecville.bsky.social gathering, but it also led to me later discovering that @hannahdavisreid.bsky.social & I share an alma mater!

Had such a great time, per usual! Looking forward to the growth of Livable Albemarle in the next year!

If people are ever interested in coming and feel anxious about not knowing anyone, I used to, too 💀. Just sit down and eat your tacos, and we’ll come say hi, and within 2 months, it’ll be great!

New homes are not sufficient to address the local housing affordability crisis. But they are necessary to address it.
In 2023, exactly 2 homes were built in Albemarle County’s Jack Jouett district, in case you’re wondering why housing is so expensive around here.

Reminder that landlords don’t like new housing because it threatens their business and gives power to tenants.
‘Tis the season to remind people that George Bailey was a developer that Mr. Potter, a NIMBY landlord, wished to crush because of the threat Bailey Park’s new cookie cutter homes presented to Potter and his leverage over his tenants living in poor conditions.

We love to see it!
This appears to be an application for in-fill duplex! Subdividing a lot, preserving existing home, adding two new homes.

If policymakers want to preserve older, rent-controlled housing stock, they should permit lots of new market rate housing.
When housing supply is constrained, increases in demand lead to reductions in the stock of rent-controlled housing.

We've got to do better when it comes to planning and paying for protected bike lanes and traffic calming. We hear the City say one thing, and then do another when it comes to actually putting money and political will into real improvements.
@cvillecityhall.bsky.social is on track to miss its own comprehensive plan & climate goals while budgeting so little for bike infra due to failure to identify projects.

I wrote a letter urging Council to fund a connected, protected network—not another decade of failure

Excellent letter on the proposed city Capital Budget from @yyahn.bsky.social!

Consider emailing council@charlottesville.gov and planningcommission@charlottesville.gov ahead of their joint hearing on this part of the budget this evening.

We strongly encourage you to bring feedback on the Three Notched Trail proposals. We regret to inform you that you’ll have to learn a new and somewhat…odd format in order to interact with the proposals.

From the newsletter. Needs to be repeated frequently on blast:

“You might not know it from the dehumanizing and stigmatizing ways homelessness is frequently talked about in the media and online, but the people in our community most harmed by homelessness are people experiencing homelessness.”
We just sent out the December edition of our newsletter! It covers the announcement of our next webinar on preventing displacement, our first ever holiday gift guide, a city bike infrastructure advocacy opportunity, the vigil for those who died while homeless, and more.

One of the arguments for protected bike lanes is that they will actually help with car traffic because more people will choose to bike instead of drive. Here is some new evidence for this: mass.streetsblog.org/2025/12/05/b...
Boston Data Show New Bike Lanes Successfully Shift Traffic, With Fewer Cars and Way More Bikes - Streetsblog Massachusetts
Mayor Wu has hard evidence that her bike lane projects are helping reduce traffic – but her administration is reluctant to share it.

Thanks to Michael for keeping us all informed about what’s happening tonight at the Three Notched Trail meeting!
I'm at the Three Notched Trail meeting at Western Albermarle Hugh School. Not gonna skeet too much, but I'll post any major highlights.

Great turnout, probably 100 people here.

There are maps up for major trail sections with 3 route options each. We're to write sticky notes with our thoughts.
