Several friends chose matching books so they could read them together at Rockfish River Elementary School. 231 books went home with kids and staff. I loved seeing the “after” picture of kids reading inside, since I don’t usually get to see that part 😊

Like every other institution, your representatives* in Congress, in the state house, in any association or organization you are member of, are incapable of loving you back.

* unless they are close personal friends or a family member, but that's outside of their role as your representative

yep. that's right. In terms of timing, the main thing that's changed since 1, 2, or 3 weeks ago was the start of flight cancellations, which were on path to ruin lots of peoples' Thanksgiving plans
I’m right.
I noted a while ago that my memory was shutdowns usually ended due to air travel issues (not pesky things such as paychecks and hunger). And was told I was wrong. But I’m right, right?

Is social media to blame for teens’ mental health decline?

Intuition says yes—but RCTs find only small short-term effects when users quit.

This new preprint argues these studies don’t prove social media isn’t to blame.

Here’s why: 3 reasons.

I think we should make it legal and easy to build starter homes like townhouses and condominium apartments in more places so people can get on the homeownership ladder affordable without having to sign up for 50 year loans they’ll probably never pay off.
Oh good. the 50-year mortgage. That should solve everything.

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Thank you council members @nat4cville.bsky.social and Michael Payne for your vote against making a special exception to established policy by selling off this public property
Divided City Council appears willing to sell Clarke Court to the Jefferson Scholars Foundation
Council voted 3-2 on a first reading and the item will come back with more details about what the Jefferson Scholars Foundation would pay for the land

Adding alt-text to images that you post on Bluesky is a simple courtesy for people who are visually impaired. You should always do it, including when you post screenshots of articles or other posts. Adding alt-text easy & takes very little time. Bluesky even prompts you when you post an image.

“I think my community should welcome outsiders and newcomers seeking a better life” and “I think we should only build new housing for the kind of people who actually deserve it” are fundamentally incompatible beliefs.

I've been thinking abt local economic conditions today. Namely, abt the severe shortage of affordable housing, the high costs of transportation by car, & environment costs of hopscotch sprawl into surrounding counties requiring people to drive past empty land to other counties to get home from work

Very cool new database on the use of AI in software for talent acquisition and recruiting
‼️ AI shapes how people get hired—but how much do we know about those tools? 🎤 We’ve launched the TARAI Index, a public database mapping AI use in 100+ recruiting technologies. 🤓 It helps practitioners and researchers explore how AI really works in hiring 👉 www.tarai.org
