Damn, weird times all over the world.
Reports that the upcoming Angoulême Fest is canceled. The autocratic president Franck Bondoux, & his equally disliked daughter, legally "own" the fest & agreed to step aside... but not just yet. This is unacceptable to publishers & authors, who are boycotting. This year's fest is dead. Sad.

I was rereading C&H recently and a thing that struck me is that contemporary readers might have assumed Calvin's dad was divorced or a widower for the first couple weeks.
Bill Watterson’s “Calvin and Hobbes” first appeared 40 years ago, on November 18, 1985. Here’s the first week of dailies:

"The only thing that matters in our new economy is monetized attention. This is a problem if you’re an artist who needs time to think about things."

Yes.
In a post completely free of self-pity, Cathy Malkasian says she’s leaving comics because of poor sales. This is something I can certainly relate to. In Cathy’s case, it kills me that someone this good can’t find an audience. I wish the world was a better place.

Look, I know we're all sick of hearing "if this had happened with any other president ..." but it's absolutely true and absolutely can't be forgotten.

For some reason, this nation gives this idiotic spoiled brat a free pass from things that would destroy the administration of any other person.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

I also watched this video earlier today and found it pretty compelling.
Interesting video that explores a problem with VFX-filled filmmaking: the focus on 'good enough' surface level plastic visuals vs. the physical, haptic reality of old-school films that encourages the audience to round out the reality of a photographed world with ALL our senses via our imagination:

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.
