I would never accuse the Iraqi Army of being well trained or using a lot of restraint. And yet in Mosul I came to expect more discretion from the average Iraqi soldier than U.S. cops who have never taken incoming fire.
not for the first time I note these guys pulling shit that would have gotten you extremely killed in any actual insurgency situation

Wow at this 2019 @radleybalko.bsky.social piece. The NYPD tried to use the "vehicle was a deadly weapon" excuse for excessive force

The video showed the officer was never in danger. Not only was the victim ruled innocent--the officer got convicted of perjury

Thread. Scroll up.
They won't have the numbers to occupy the nation and force everyone to comply, and that's why they're engaged in such an aggressive show of force. They're hoping we all get cowed into submission and do their work of suppression ourselves.

Once again, no.

The mantra remains "fuck you, make me."

The response to the ICE killing of Renee Nicole Good is not what the White House was expecting.

Like with their hiding of the Epstein files, part of the fundamental problem they are facing is that the stories the Trump administration has built their movement on are being shown for their emptiness.

I broke the story yesterday that masked ICE agents (not DOJ) were removing items including a personal computer from the home of Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot Renee Good. I have yet to see a single news outlet cover this or an elected official even acknowledge it.
NEW: These are ICE agents removing evidence from the shooter's home. They are not DOJ, they are Jonathan Ross's friends and coworkers, not DOJ.

This agent removing Ross's personal computer was reported yesterday Jan 9 for boxing in a volunteer and telling them "I'll dedicate my next arrest to you"

People might argue that ICE is not recruiting quality agents.

But I would insist that they are in fact successfully recruiting the exact sort of person needed to carry out the mission: reactionary, angry, violent people who don’t believe in democracy.

A white mother and U.S. citizen being shot and killed is not what they were sold, and it is a breaking point for many.

That does not, in any way, mean the other actions are not also important and indefensible, but it is a line *for those in the movement* that they thought would not be crossed.

I'm not the first to say this but they think the chuds and perverts on X are representative of the US populace.

I really don't think it's registered for them that today's X isn't the US public square "freed" from ToS "censorship."

They treat that site as the voice of the people, and. Nope

For the Times, the point of the story was they got an interview, which gave them juice for a day. Nothing he said mattered more than the interview itself, so there's no need to keep talking about it.
It's remarkable that Trump's claim that there are no constraints on his power other than his "own morality"--that he thinks he can govern as a dictator--proved to be a 1-day story, with no follow-up coverage in the New York Times, to whom he said this, or, as far as I can tell, any other newspaper.

This is true but the larger problem is that if you had predicted any of this, it would have been dismissed as hysterical hyperbole by most *voters* (granting of course some chicken / egg stuff)
If you had predicted with precise accuracy any of our current top stories this week during the ‘24 election, it would have been dismissed as Trump Derangement Syndrome by most of the professional takesmiths.

If there are *any* Democrats in Congress who will still vote to keep funding this administration when it is using that money to terrorize our cities and refusing to allow congressional representatives their clear right to observe their activities, then those reps need to be primaried into retirement
I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building.

Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained.

The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

what do you call it when a rogue armed government agency tells an elected official they dont care if theyre breaking the law
Rep. Angie Craig: "We were told because this facility is being funding by the 'Big Beautiful Bill,' not the congressional appropriations act, that we would not be allowed to enter the facility. That's complete nonsense ... I informed them they were violating the law. They said they didn't care."

I’m noticing that Trumpers talking — on Facebook, or other social media, or interviews, etc. — are increasingly picking up on the administration’s stupid and censorial “libs are provoking this” narrative. Their support for free speech was always bullshit.

The small number of people who noted at the time that creating a department of fatherland security might be a bad idea were easily drowned out. In the post 9/11 world you had to take action!
Democrats who want to abolish ice should start introducing legislation to roll back the creation of DHS. It was a specific post 9/11 law that combined previously extant functions into a single new department. Let’s start getting that model legislation out there. (Is it already?)
