Military historians wouldn't placate the anti-intellectual, anti-statists who are attacking higher ed. The truth about war is just as destabilizing to the fables they want us to believe about this country as the truth about anything else.
history departments are being shut left and right because of a multi-decadal, transnational attack on both the humanities more broadly and on the university and academic labor. its not because they don't offer military history courses or hire military historians.

Dragging civil rights out and tolerating open gangsterism across the south for a whole ass century because hanging all the confederates felt like poor taste or something. At some point we gotta deal with this evil we all keep putting it off and it's not working.
It was an unforgivable dereliction of duty that the majority of elected congressional Republican office holders were not in prison for open insurrection by March 2021.
I think it’s a reflection of their own attitudes. Both Biden and they were trying to live in a fantasy where those 4 years were a return to normalcy as opposed to the most urgent moment in American history to preserve what was left of democracy.

It was absolutely a dereli of duty

And it was America as usual after a major conflict: we ignored the source of the issue because it was easier to silence and marginalize those most affected by that history. Than to shift our behavior in any way

We still can’t even say it out loud

For at least a decade I have been told that “the blockchain” was not just for crypto but was a transformative technology that would be broadly adopted for thousands of uses.
Facebook renamed itself Meta and lit $77 billion on fire for the metaverse just to abandon it five years later.
Hoverboards are the future, segways are the future, betamax, laser disc, Google glass is the future, 3d tvs are the future, curved screens are the future.

Like do we have to traipse through the whole graveyard of tech to get these people to understand just becauae you say it doesn't make it true.

The president illegally sent innocent legal residents of the country to an overseas concentration camp, & he & all of his ministers remain in office. This is the total failure of a political system. It’s not just that we’re not actually a democracy. Our institutions are totally non-functional.

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

Bari Weiss is the logical endpoint of corporate media. This is what happens when people who hate journalism are in charge of it. The only way journalism works is when it’s independent from the power it’s supposed to hold to account, which means ownership can’t have anything to do with those in power

So Bari Weiss’s first real editorial intervention at CBS is to repress coverage of American concentration camps.

My main takeaway is not so much how it demonstrates that they know they're full of shit, because we already know that.

My main takeaway is how easy it is to catch them with the simplest follow-up, and how obvious this makes it that they're not used to being asked basic journalistic questions.

BRENNAN: Doesn't the administration claim it was the country that paid that?

🚨 The DOJ appears to have redacted Donald Trump’s name from the allegations made in this exhibit in the Epstein files.

Trump’s name was in the original release. Now, it’s blacked out.

See for yourself.

Interesting to consider that if you were to go and deface the Kennedy center by removing Trump’s name, you’d be arrested and charged with a crime, but your act would be no more unlawful than what they’re doing right now.

longstanding theory on this is that people who know the applicant that they don't want to hire has racial resentment offer "wish i could've hired you, but they made me hire a black woman instead!" as a let-them-down-easy cope rather than admit to them that they just didn't want to hire them.
