In 2010 I first spent an extended period of time in the US on research. And my main takesway from that time was how deluded Europeans in general are if we think of the US as little more than a very powerful extension of Europe on the other side of the Atlantic. This is not an anti-american point.

Today is 92nd anniversary of Holodomor. Soviet Russia inflicted a man made famine on Ukraine that killed millions. Today we are trying to wipe the country off the map.

The only difference is the USA is on our side now.

Amen. I grew up in a 99.9% White Irish theocracy. One colleague I knew was married to a Jamaican woman. Ppl would literally stop their cars to stare at her, having never seen anyone Black before. This country has developed in leaps & bounds as diversity & acceptance have increased.
I live in (what I think I'm correct in saying is) the most diverse constituency in the whole country - Dublin Central, D1 - *and* I'm old enough to remember what this place was like before significant immigration, and the idea that immigration hasn't been good for this country is fucking laughable

I can't see how Trump's threat "backfired" -- it's not as if the cops are going to arrest him.

Wouldn't surprise me if they suggested Houlahan flee the country.

Agree. Coalition of the Willing has to stop deluding itself that after a ceasefire on reasonable terms it will send symbolic forces to Ukraine w US backing. UK, France, Germany, Poland &c must invest whatever it takes to defeat RU in UA, or they will have to fight it, without US help, further West.
It’s not a “US plan”, it’s Moscow’s plan, dictated to guilty men in the White House. Setting aside the injustices being pushed on Ukraine, this would be a disaster for European security & guarantee a war with 🇷🇺 in a few years, in which, presumably, 🇺🇸 and 🇷🇺 are on the same side.

Most of their leaders come from the political right—not the left.

In Bloomberg, I explored lessons from the Riviera about building urbanist support when conservatives are in charge.

Politically conservative Côte d’Azur cities like Cannes and Nice have embraced pedestrianization, car bans and bike lanes. That’s a departure from global norms.
