All along the French Riviera, cities are limiting cars, building pedestrian zones, and boosting transit and bikes.

Most of their leaders come from the political right—not the left.

In Bloomberg, I explored lessons from the Riviera about building urbanist support when conservatives are in charge.
On the French Riviera, Street Reforms Come From the Right
Politically conservative Côte d’Azur cities like Cannes and Nice have embraced pedestrianization, car bans and bike lanes. That’s a departure from global norms.

You have to love the "things happen." Yeah, I had a friend who was walking down the street last week, and then he got strangled and cut up by a bone saw. You know, things happen.

Worth noting that that 400+ lawyers and academics found there to be "no insurmountable legal obstacles" to banning goods *and* services

Trump is invariably depraved. But he is depraved in remarkably diverse ways.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

This is a general point about the immigration debate. Everyone talks about the narratives and their political consequences. Too few talk about the reality on the ground, the good and the bad.
Coverage of the refugee proposals demonstrates why we have such a broken political system. Endless focus on left-wing anger and right-wing support. Basically nothing on whether the reforms will work. They will not, which is why we'll still be here having the same debate in three years.

Summers called this female Chinese economist “peril.”

“Yellow peril” was partially built on the claim that Chinese women were sexually immoral threats.

That logic fueled the Page Act of 1875, which barred Chinese women by presuming they were prostitutes, even before the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act.
Summers conferred with Epstein frequently about how to extract sexual favors from a Harvard econ grad (AB '04, PhD '09)

The grad is from China

Epstein and Summers referred to her by the codename "Peril"

What a story! There's hope for America yet.
a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.
