Damn. I was really hoping I'd get to send THAT birthday card to Stanley Baxter. I wish I'd seen him in panto - common consent has it that he was the best dame of all, and it's easy to believe. However, I did get to meet him a few times, and I interviewed him at home for one of my books.

A recent digital addition to the APTS Archive is a fascinating diary from the Lines Termination Room at Alexandra Palace - Oct 1937 to Oct 1938. Contains 40 pages of notes on equipment usage, operation times, & faults, also early mention of BBC engineer Mr. Harry Rantzen, father of @ERantzen.

An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.
