So sorry to hear that Avelo's decision to profit off of authoritarian misery-transit didn't pay off as handsomely as they hoped.
NEW: Avelo’s ICE flights have been a fiasco, internal documents show.

Serious safety lapses, poor planning, mechanical issues, an emergency landing — and they’re not even making as much money as they hoped they would.

From me for @prospect.org:

ICE Air’s Sloppy, Dangerous Deportation Flights - The American Prospect
Poor planning, mechanical issues, serious safety lapses, and the shutdown are taking a toll on Avelo, America’s most famous deportation airline, internal documents show.

Don’t think ppl understand the terror the Feds are unleashing on the streets of LA right now. Roving patrols targeting vulnerable individuals. It’s horrible.

There’s no one coming to save us except ourselves.
The past week+ has been really intense in Los Angeles. We need all of the help, support, & attention we can get. Feds are literally roving the streets snatch & grabbing vulnerable individuals. It's horrific. We need to do more.
Feds are once again ruthlessly targeting ktown & adjacent areas. This is getting really intense. We need to do more.

Today's newsletter is about the awful and extremely political decision to gut Teen Vogue for parts www.readtpa.com/p/teen-vogue...
Teen Vogue's Award-Winning Journalism Was Too Much Trouble for Condé Nast
The outlet just won recognition for speaking truth to power. Condé Nast responded by eliminating its entire politics staff and folding it into Vogue.

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

BREAKING: Democrats just broke the GOP supermajority in the Mississippi Senate!

In a stunning victory, Democrats gained seats in court-ordered special elections and will now head to Jackson to represent and fight on behalf of their constituents.

Honestly.
Part of the turnaround has to be getting corporate money out of politics.

Every candidate isn't gonna have Mamdani levels of on camera charm.
Just because we beat them doesn’t mean we should continue to let billionaires spend whatever they want on elections.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

A lot of Very Serious People will be pretending to be confused about What This All Means as a way to avoid the simple inconvenient reality: Voters like it when candidates are kind sincere non-weirdos who are passionate about big popular ideas that will actually help real people.

From Evan: it's a huge night of hope for the trans community. The Republicans went all in on anti-trans ads in multiple races and so far there's no sign it got them anything.

Perhaps the page can be turned on blaming us for Harris' loss last year.

Huge congrats to Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard on being elected as Georgia’s next Public Service Commissioners. As Trump raises utility costs, this is a huge deal. They are the FIRST non-federal statewide Democrats to win in Georgia in nearly 20 years.
Democrats have flipped two Georgia Public Service Commission seats from red to blue in the first win for GA Democrats at the nonfederal statewide level since 2006.

The Georgia Public Service Commission plays an instrumental role in determining energy policy for the state.

I haven’t seen many people talking about Mississippi. Mississippi is holding seven legislative special elections because their previous districts violated the voting rights act.

We have a chance to break the state Senate super majority today.

This statement is true, and Steve also knows what I‘m about to say, so this is just additional commentary not a correction:

This is not new. Cops have been doing this for ages. Talk back to a cop and they’ll rough you up. They have been doing this and getting away with it for a very long time.
It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.
