Maybe let's try winning this time.
If Platner keeps his lead in the polls, I think it's an interesting test to see what types of lefty ideas have permeated to the public. Left coded populism is compelling when presented by the right messenger. I also think that the left's promotion of second chances plays a role here too.

It kinda sucks that most debate on the left is an exercise of competing logics that are generally divorced from their real world implications. People plug in assumptions, often overbroad or not quite right, and plug them into an argument like it's a paper they need to finish for class.

One lesson I feel like the left should internalize more is that your actions and be both righteous and theoretically correct while ultimately dooming your cause. People act like conviction is free of consequence.

DHS has been lying about this shooting of an American citizen. 🧵
Trump's federal agents shot Marimar Martinez, a US citizen, multiple times for allegedly menacing them with her car in Chicago. Only hours later, Kristi Noem and DHS started spreading disinformation about the shooting.

Now the official line is crumbling. 1/

As the official Trump administration line about the shooting of a Chicago woman crumbles, Senator Chris Murphy is asking pointed questions about what really happened here. Will we ever get answers?

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...
Second "No Kings Day" protests likely the largest single-day political demonstration since 1970, with 4.2-7.6 million participants

Yeah I do think the various attempts to will elite capitulation into being were briefly a successful bit of self-fulfilling prophesying but for various reasons are failing now - huge protests, university's rejecting the compact, the press refusing to go along with Hegseth's new pentagon policy, etc.
Remember back in January when all these sage politics-knowers were writing about how there had been a vibe shift and now the resistance was over?

lol. lmao.

Based on early numbers, there are easily more people participating in the second No Kings Day than in the first. Trump's strategy of constantly talking about this on TV and GOP govs sending in the national guard obviously energized the left. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

genuinely wild the number of quote tweets that see this as an insult toward mamdani rather than as praise for his discipline and skill at translating personal charisma into political appeal
Zohran Mamdani is a trained performer who has an extremely disciplined and laser-focused ability to recite on-message talking points in response to any question, and yet voters overwhelming praise him as being especially "authentic" compared to other politicians. There's a lesson here!
October 17, 2025 at 11:08 AM
An underrated aspect in the discussion of how lefties should hold Zohran accountable is the relatively narrow band of organizing philosophies that guide the vast majority of work people participate in. I think we're seeing how the lack of strategic diversity guides politics, not the other way around

this is getting very dangerous very fast and it is entirely the feds' doing. in fact the discipline and courage of protesters is the only thing slowing down escalation.
At 105th chaos erupted when ICE agents allegedly crashed into an SUV. A crowd formed and objects were thrown. Pepper balls were shot into the crowd. Police arrived to try to have dialogue with the crowd when witnesses stated they began throwing rocks at ICE. ICE then deployed tear gas.

David began running in the scorching sun after the car and watched as it disappeared from sight—soon headed to a Louisiana ICE prison.
