There's a corollary to Arthur C. Clarke's Third Law that's something like "Once you believe technology is magic, you will absolutely discount the labor that goes into using it to do anything worthwhile"

lol it’s so genuinely fun seeing Cory take decades of fluency in how these systems are broken and serve it up for a mainstream audiences. Even if you know “enshittification” well, this is worth the watch. And love to @eff.org! youtu.be/d2e-c9SF5nE

Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

Audio-visual librarians are quietly amassing large physical media collections amid the IP disputes threatening select availability.

DEEPLY disappointed that these K-Pop Demon Hunter Vans slip-ons with Derpy Tiger on one shoe and Sussy Bird on the other are only in kid sizes, topping out at side 7. I have smallish feet, but not THAT small.

What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

I was really good at putting together the shake machine at Burger King on an opening shift and also great at taking it apart on a closing shift.
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

I can open a bottle of wine and present it like you see at the fanciest of restaurants because I waited tables at fancy restaurants for years. I have a wine intolerance and am now a project manager.

when microprocessors are outlawed, my ability to work on ancient Bosch fuel injection systems will be relevant again, for the first time.

I used to be a fan of Richard Dawkins, JK Rowling, and Graham Linehan.

They can all go straight to hell.

In a new phase 3 trial, people randomly assigned to receive a flu shot made with modified mRNA were 34.5% less likely to be diagnosed with an influenza-like illness than people given a standard flu shot made with inactivated virus.

We need to stop the anti-science attacks against mRNA vaccines!

my goodness but film critics do complicate their lives. does the movie kick ass or does it not? that’s the only important question and rarely does anyone address it to my satisfaction

It’s transgender awareness week. I have two trans kids who are comfortable in and proud of their identities. I hope I can answer a few questions I get frequently and help folks feel more comfortable and well-informed.
