It's weird that in this administration that literally everything they're doing is side-channel despite literally controlling all 3 branches

It's all executive orders and shadow docket shit and non-euclidean org chart bullshit where one guy is acting deputy director of like 4 different agencies
I don’t think the president should have the power to just arbitrarily declare online that IKEA cannot do business in the United States for no particular reason other than he feels like it
Not even 20 minutes later and I guess we’re doing 50% tariffs on IKEA for some reason. He’s a man with a plan to make life more expensive and he can’t be stopped.

Senate Dems released a report today about DODGE & its attempt destroy Social Security and this is precisely what they should do. However though I have seen some coverage of this, I doubt the public will really take this in given everything else happening.

Allyship, for the most part, only ever comes if it's convenient and comfortable for the person doing it. People were willing to cancel their Disney subscriptions because other than two shows that can be pirated, they don't watch it much.

But boycott a chicken sandwich or boy wizard? Too much.
The success of the boycott of Disney over Kimmel is simultaneously encouraging and infuriating, because it shows people could have stood up to this shit at any point before this - in defense of trans people, in defense of black women, in defense of so many others - and simply didn't

this is why we need to bring back shame

there need to be consequences for being a huge asshole, there need to be standards for how you behave in a decent society

the rules cannot be set by the worst of us
the cultural crisis is straightforward: there are no longer any formal consequences for blatantly anti-social behavior, and the rest of us are constantly just getting lectured that we have to put up with these assholes making our lives worse
Imagine if NPR had actually talked to safe streets advocates for this story and learned how the solutions to drivers killing people is not, in fact, victim blaming

If they had a right-wing, “tough-on-crime” coded mayor there would be endless national profiles about him and how he finally brought sanity back to Chicago.
Now that summer is over, Chicago is still on track to have fewer homicides in 2025 than almost any other year since 2001. This is especially impressive considering that the five most violent years of the 21st century have all been in the past decade.

people do not really understand that once a movement's popularity starts falling towards the 30% mark, it begins shedding even core supporters. this is because you can no longer maintain the information environment inside that core. there are just too many leaks.

The US dollar has lost 10.8% of its value since the start of the year, the biggest decline in 5 decades. Trump pushing the Fed to cut rates while the dollar is tanking is a bad mix. Lower rates weaken the dollar further, make imports pricier, fuel inflation, and shake confidence in the economy more.
