I once had the privilege of teaching a women & politics courses at Texas A&M. I inherited the class from a colleague, but I made it fully my own (no one double-checked my syllabi). And the course addressed gender, sexuality, and intersectionality—b/c, obvi. I have never enjoyed teaching more! 1/

If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.

If someone knows where to get 2025 NJ ballots returned by party (even if it's just for some counties), my students would very much appreciate it!

Probably just liberal wishcasting but it really does feel like he’s got the stink on him now. Ambitious political friends sensing a real weakness and his instinctive bullying making him appear more guilty.

Not smart enough to connect the dots because all these things are correlated but boy does this feel super important to our backlash politics. Also feel like smart phones/social media (2007-ish) is hiding in all of these figures.
The percentage of Americans who say religion is an important part of their lives declined from 66% in 2015 to 49% in 2025. Among the fastest declines in the world.

Tonight some really awful people are in panic sweats, having one of the worst nights of their lives. I'm eating nachos and drinking Big Red. Maybe we'll watch a British mystery show. Go to bed early.

“This suggests a role for white racial attitudes, and, indeed, we find that state-level white racial resentment predicts Black-white representational disparities.”
Racial differences in policy responsiveness are small. But policy is more responsive to whites under Republicans control, not explained by class, age, or ideology but partially by party. Republican Senators' votes also better represent white constituents.
