The hill I will die on:

The way we understand what a "video game" is, as a subset of the potential of interactive multimedia software, is extremely arbitrarily limiting and mostly a result of historical accidents and industry streamlining / conservatism.

We can dream far more interesting dreams.
(honest question) what are the “good” video games? artistically i mean, not in a “i enjoyed this escapist slop” kind of way
Well. It's not Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's like one of three video games I'd genuinely consider good.

Philosophy is structurally unable to acknowledge that "I dunno, man, maybe?" is objectively speaking the correct answer to most of our questions.

One of the earliest faxed images, made by Shelford Bidwell ca 1890.

The image was scanned with light, line by line. A selenium photocell transmitted the light as electricity, burning marks onto chemically-treated paper; or the image blocked it (no mark). Et voilà, "distant electric vision."

Next week, The Wire will publish its 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣th issue, which feels like something worth celebrating.

By way of reflection, we've taken a look back through the archive at our previous milestones.

I also wish more people were empowered to design tech tools really only intended for the use of themselves and their friends - and be content with that, too.

In 2004, Kazutoshi Iida (Aquanaut's Holiday, Tail of the Sun) sat down with his friend Hideo Kojima to discuss the original Metal Gear Solid, apropos of the Japanese guidebook for The Twin Snakes, of which he was Editor in Chief.

Today I present to you a translation of this conversation.
