Happy 50th anniversary of the day Australia came fully under the US' imperial control
Whitlam Dismissal take

The greatest achievement of the Dismissal has been the crushing of the ALP’s ambition to actually bring a better world into being.

Hawke sealed the deal by making the mark of success decent management of a capitalist economy.

Now it’s just ambition to be in government.

“modelling showing many residents of suburbs including Coburg and Brunswick could soon be forced to drive to work”

Yeah no shit mate, it’s almost like the ALP shouldn’t have abandoned their promise to upgrade the Upfield

50 years ago today, the Prime Minister of Australia was *sacked* under very cooked Survivor-esque circumstances, probably changing the course of Australia forever.

Here's a good podcast about the history:

The US should not be allowed to make Australia complicit in nuclear war. 50 years ago Whitlam believed that and he was right.

It’s time to end AUKUS. Close Pine Gap.

It wasnt our enviro laws that were too weak to protect the Skate or stop the North West Shelf, it was our Ministers.

Thats why Labor is trying to get the Coalition to help them water them down…to save Enviro Ministers the embarrassment of always saying yes #climate

It wasn’t the laws that were too weak to stop those projects, it was the ministers
The Prime Minister is betting that by 2028 people will forget the North West Shelf and EPBC backflips, but it would be a brave backbencher willing to make that same bet.

My partner is a clown and this is exactly the core conversation that she and her peers are having all the time - about how to design situations for yourself to thread the needle on this paradox. (In her French clown school, they called this being at your most "beautiful")

I'm having a revelation.. I think treating evil game design, player-hostile design, quality of death, etc. as goals, while aligned with my values on a surface level, is kind of like when someone intentionally sets out to make a "bad" movie. It will not be as beautiful as the sincere "bad" movies.

By not just giving up, but giving up *randomly*, *in exchange for nothing*, Schumer's Democrats create two problems for themselves.

1. The argument the Republicans, not them, caused the shutdown collapses: bsky.app/profile/did:...

2. The Repubs will *absolutely* do this again next time; it worked:
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

The Trump administration is dismantling our core humanitarian protections, leaving hundreds of thousands at risk of detention, deportation, and harm.

Congress must protect TPS holders and pass a pathway to citizenship now.
