Fuck me, I have only gotten to TWO items on this list

This year has been too busy, but also, I badly need to find more people to play tabletop games with. I have Arcs and City of Six Moons just sitting there in the corner looking at me.

bsky.app/profile/doou...
Games I'd like to finally play / catch up in 2025:

Arcs
John Company
City of Six Moons
Earthborne Rangers
Traitors Hungary S1-3
Survivor Quebec S2
<redacted>
The Crimson Diamond
Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers
<redacted>
Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru
2024 IFComp winners

(I know I'm forgetting some)

Can’t stop won’t stop posting about Ring Racers

I dig how some of the later tutorials explicitly talk about the system design motivations, I wish more games did that

Finally started diving into Ring Racers.

Holyyyy shit, this is so wild. Any Mario Kart 64 sickos out there should take a look at this (running in the Doom engine?!)

After NINE RELEASE CANDIDATES and over a month of intensive testing, Robotnik's Ring Racers v2.4 is out now.

Crossworlds is cool and all but this fangame is designed by and for kart racing and fighting game sickos. Big drop in/drop-out online MP and a huge solo mode too

Look I’ve been there, but at some point there are seriously diminishing returns engaging with how large corporations treat their IP. I understand it’s not a simple either/or, but there are *so* many incredible games being made at the margins, save enough time and energy to engage with those.

During last Senate Estimates, I asked about links to organised crime and value for money, I was told there is no need for concern.

Now whistleblower evidence paints a very different picture.

Also, just mentioning that Microsoft are still a BDS boycott primary target, so even if you don't care about a mega-budget AAA game cheaping out and using generic AI-generated art, you should care because the publisher *called the FBI* to investigate their own staff for anti-genocidal sentiments.

we don't just need to be funding small studios to make one game, we need to be funding them to make the ones they can fuck up before they can make the ones they learn from.
The winner takes all-instant hit-meme-flywheel mentality that has completely overtaken the games industry and even #indiedev is poison.

It deteriorates the space for risk and sustainable growth, until all that's left is to to either make slot-machines or slop-machines.

Dude why are so many of the best videogames of our time Sonic “fan” games made in non Sonic game engines?

(the adjective “fan” there doing a lot of heavy lifting, obviously)

Played more Ring Racers tonight, very into it, most I’ve resonated with a Mario Kart like since literally the 90s bsky.app/profile/doou...

Anyone else noticed how Nazi rallies get the go-ahead fairly easily from state governments, then the horrified public reaction is weaponised to pass anti-protest laws, which are then used to quash anti-genocide dissent and justify police assaults on small brown women? You picking up on this, too??

Victoria isn’t broke, its net assets are actually increasing

The reason it’s spending more than it’s collecting at present is it’s in the middle of massive infrastructure upgrades

The BCA is calling for more infrastructure and complaining about its cost..ffs

Don’t hobble Victoria with complaints about taxes, debt and deficit
Big business never tires of saying taxes are bad, yet those same companies thrive on the very services taxes pay for.

‘Not an eligible disaster’: FOI reveals Commonwealth resisted new aid for SA after algal bloom killed 250,000 marine animals

This Labor party is rotten to the core. Imagine saying kids are too young to understand what they’re reading online but old enough to spend the rest of their lives in prison if they commit a violent crime. It’s demented. But what both policies share is an extreme need to control and punish kids.

In an Australia first, I used FOI to get the AI chat logs of Australia's top national security bureaucrat.

They show how he used Microsoft Copilot to ghostwrite speeches and messages to colleagues.

This comes as the government looks to push AI use in the public service.

When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?
