The paradox of political art under fascism is that it is asked to compensate for a failed political opposition while, at the same time, bland statements like "we should be nice to each other" or "I should be allowed to exist" come to be seen as radical and therefore sufficient.

Adobe has spent over twenty years torturing and maiming Flash.
I AM FURIOUS.

Adobe Animate remains an industry standard for TV animation. Star Trek: Lower Decks was made in Animate. Haunted Hotel was made in Animate. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was made in Animate.

And because you can't buy a permanent licence anymore, it'll just be gone.

Video game stocks crashed the other day after Google announced its "world-building" AI.

I admit I’m charmed by these dream-logic walking-sim slopsperiences but I doubt Gamers will be.

The main use case is likely streamers crowdsourcing meme prompts and making fun of them until the novelty wanes.

Greetings from inside the economic blockade zones of Minneapolis and St Paul! Don’t look away, please. We need you. It’s been a month and they’re trying to destroy us.

I taught a video making class last semester and I can confirm that getting students to pay attention even to *contemporary animated shorts* is getting more challenging every year.

I like the "slow cinema" approach. Reclaiming our attention is a skill we can and should teach.

I'm back in the NYT with a piece on my favourite micro-genre: climbing games.

I especially love their suggestion that anyone, even vertigo sufferers, can be a climber, converting the environment before them into a symbolic system of self-expression.

The regime likes influencers because they are cultural agents that can be directed, elevated, and canceled by the algorithms it controls.

A content creator is, by definition, an artist whose entire livelihood depends on one click or one line of code.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I KNEW IT! PINGU HAS AN ITALIAN ACCENT!
Italian voice actor Carlo Bononi was the voice of all of the characters on Pingu. A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
