They are only games on Steam though (and selling more than 1K). I'd say Unreal is more likely adopted by bigger budget projects / multiplayer projects with better chances of success.

By kids I mean high school and college age kids, not children. Guitar Hero was primarily played by the same demographics that traditionally starts bands.

In Pittsburgh house and basement parties are going strong. Anecdotally, it seems like there are more DIY show now than pre-pandemic.

No, because rock-aged kids who never touched a plastic instrument are very much into guitars. Rock is all over TikTok, and there are plenty of new bands making good music.
There’s just this mysterious lost decade.

Plenty has been written about how Guitar Hero popularized individual bands and songs.
But overall, the kids who “grew up” with it didn’t go on to form good rock bands.
