looks like we could be in for a nasty flu season. one easy way to reduce your risk is to wear an N95 as much as possible when you're indoors.
obviously your level of protection drops the more you take it off (eg to take a drink) but every little bit helps. and you don't want the flu. or covid!

Masking works. My respirator has kept me free from Covid and flu for six years. 😷
Vaccines are great, but not inhaling viruses into your body is super cool when vaccines do not provide 100% protection. Vaccines & masking in combination FTW.

I am so goddamn tired of conservatives destroying things that belong to the public. This department doesn't belong to Sim, it's not his, he has no moral right to do this. This is social vandalism.
He just sucks so much. And he's not even a fun mayor who sucks, he's just boring and mid and awful.

i've used the phrase "tickle-trunk" a few times in the past couple weeks and it only just now occurred to me that not everyone - especially those who aren't canadian millennials and older - might not know what it means.
is this a common phrase or did childhood television burrow it into my brain

wow wow wow CITY: The Animation, what a show, what a show. Watched the last episode just now, whew. Such positive summer vibes. A real feel-good cartoon, with some real virtuoso cartooning - sometimes you really can have it all
this is a show about how it's cool to have friends, and how there's lots of different ways that you can be friends with someone, and how everyone loves their friends and their friends love them

theory: it takes 3-4 such disappointments of this nature for most young leftists to find their equilibrium. one to enrage you, two to demoralize you, three to detach you from electoral politics, then by the fourth time you’re milder about it all and able to operate with tempered optimism

DULF is a humanist organization that has saved lives. They did what the government has failed to do & regulated the drugs people were already using. That same government is charging them with crimes for not sitting idly by & watching more people die preventable deaths from an unregulated drug supply
Founders of Vancouver’s Drug User Liberation Front Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalinin have just been found guilty of drug trafficking.

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.
But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.

Any London based game devs out there, I think this would be an important demo to show up to if you can.

of note in this story of budget cuts amid police requests for $50 million more dollars next year, is that it is only exempt or non-union staff who are being asked to leave their jobs.

As we await tomorrow's federal budget, we need to have a discussion as Canadians on municipal budgets.
Specifically, how police are increasingly devouring entire municipal budgets to the point other services are being cut or cancelled.
It can't continue.

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.
This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.
