“Even progressive pronatalism risks ratifying the notion that women’s most important contribution to solving major social problems is to birth and raise children.”
The right likes the birth rate panic because it helps them do more misogyny. But they also like it because it tricks democrats into re-framing good progressive social policies as solutions to a problem they probably won't solve. (Partially because it doesn't exist.) newrepublic.com/article/2040...
What If Both Sides in the Birth Rate Debate Are Wrong?
The right wants to steer women away from work and toward motherhood. The left wants to provide them with more state support so it’s easier to have children. We should refuse this choice.

So, pro rape.
Just vile and evil people.
BREAKING: Trump administration plans to end prison rape protections for trans & intersex people, memo says. A DOJ memo says certain standards under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) do not align with Trump’s Jan. 20 anti-trans executive order, @byadamrhodes.bsky.social reports.

I live on the west coast. My friend in Maine thinks black pepper is too spicy. I kid you not. Black pepper. 🥵
the big brands do know their market demographics, and a key aspect of that is “people in California are on average a lot more interested in buying ultra spicy food than New Englanders are”

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Imagine paying a large monthly fee to shop at a supermarket, then paying again for the actual groceries, then getting an extra charge months later because one ingredient in an item you bought came from a farmer associated with a different store.

This post is about healthcare.

Highly recommend this read about poverty and the true cost of life in 2025 USA

🎯 🎯 🎯

“Most of my readers will have cleared this threshold. My parents never really did, but I was born lucky … But most of my readers are now seeing this trap for their children.”
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

I swear, my Leftover Pie is not to be missed! Make a crust of stuffing pressed into a pie tin, brush with butter, & bake briefly to set. Arrange a variety of leftovers (recommend everything!) in bite-sized pieces, then top with gravy+cranberry sauce+a bit of cream cheese to texture. Heat & eat —yum!
Fellow cooks what leftover-using dishes are you planning post Thanksgiving? Turkey sandwiches and stuffing waffles are two musts for us, and deciding between turkey pho and turkey ramen

Vaccines themselves are such a metaphor for how the anti-vax demographic views society. If the rest of us didn’t do our part, most of them would be doing a very different risk assessment before declining immunization. They depend on the rest of us getting vaccinated so we stay above herd immunity.

Was she “left vulnerable to exploitation” NYT or was she f’ing exploited by a group of powerful older men? Honestly this inability to correctly name child sexual abuse is gonna be the end of me I swear.
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

Yeah but it’s not like she was a 10-year-old saving up for braces. Right?

See how ridiculous their justifications are and mock them.

cannot believe I have to now hand it to the kooks who insisted the government was being run by a shadowy cabal of pedophiles
November 13, 2025 at 12:32 PM
15-year-olds are not “barely legal,” Megyn Kelly. They are below the age of consent and predation by adult males makes those males pedophiles. It’s illegal. Against the law and immoral to boot. This isn’t difficult to understand, no matter how hard powerful people try to obfuscate and excuse.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."
November 13, 2025 at 6:34 PM
so well said
and, not for nothing, there is a further acute moral injury in becoming so used to it all, and so used to it not mattering, that you begin to think of terrible crimes with real victims along the lines of "maybe this will be what hurts him politically"
November 13, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Right theses children “asked for it,” what were they wearing?

Disgusting. A 15 year old is a CHILD. And anyone looking at her sexually is a PEDOPHILE. Full stop.

Having a coherent response to a fascist onslaught is difficult, to be sure. Not being able to come up with a coherent message against it, perfectly done here, is what suggests that Dem leadership is truly clueless and rudderless.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."
November 11, 2025 at 1:51 PM
My thoughts exactly. Instead of this message, I got a f’ing fundraising email about how we “have to keep fighting.” Just another slap in the face.
