The right-wing has been priming Americans to think of population wide gains in freedom and equality as potentially ill-gotten; a theft against those who are already living with a full suite of rights. It's why attacks on DEI work. The Dems/the left must emphasize that this is a theft of Civil Rights
It's also notable how manufactured this whole panic has been. DEI can be a little silly but it's been a fixture at American corporations since the 1990s. The only reason we're all talking about it constantly is that right-wing media decided to pretend it was left-wing tyranny.

Right. Sexism is an obstacle, to be sure, but that is apart from the country’s preparedness to accept a woman leader. Otherwise why would women get elected anywhere? Why would there be any prominent, even famous/iconic women leaders? It’s a pat way to deflect from failures of agenda and messaging.
that whole 'this country isn't ready for a woman president' line is really upsetting because it shows exactly how neoliberalism works, redirecting blame from issues of policy (or lack thereof) onto a flattened, vague type of sexism in a way that ultimately doesn't even challenge sexism!

Right, the Conservative movement’s endgame resulted in leaders engaged in and/or encouraging pedophilia, kidnapping, censorship, looting of the Treasury and an assortment of other atrocities; they can all STFU for the rest of the century.

If you don’t know how to fight for the rights of the vulnerable and marginalized, you don’t know how to fight for rights at all. Total liberation is strategically clear, and morally imperative.

The work of good anti-fascist politics is to make the denial of evil more uncomfortable than the acceptance of it.

Ventures once embarked on with care and a sense of wonder are now in the hands of childish, self-aggrandizing plunderers. The horrifying results will keep speaking for themselves.
Things like this will become increasingly common as billionaires increasingly treat low earth orbit like their personal playground and garbage dump
The only craft docked at Tiangong space station has been damaged and “does not meet the release conditions for a safe manned return.”

Almost all forces are pushing Gen Z toward greater exposure to and acceptance of different people and cultures, excluding our reactionary leaders and establishment media.
“Here’s what the data shows: Gen Z has the lowest racial resentment of any generation ever studied.”

This absolutely tracks with years of teaching members of Gen Z.

The tragedy of it is that Dem voters are thirsting for a confrontation with the root causes of American fascism — white supremacy, misogyny, elite impunity — but leadership would rather tinker around the margins, thus preventing the enduring pluralistic democracy they keep promising to deliver.

Moral vulgarity from our leaders subjects us all to moral injury; those wounds fracture us and diminish our ideals and aspirations. Trump and America’s army of nasty elites have done exactly this, and recovery will require so much more than flipping administrations.

White supremacy isn't just the overtly vile stuff; it's also trying to dictate the terms of argument, agreement, and liberation.

It’s possible that we’ll be seeing plenty of tune changing ahead, but it’s all hollow unless we’re told why you were humming along to so many vile and hateful lies before, and you show at least a hint of remorse.
Violent threats are indeed always wrong. MTG is opposed to these threats because they are directed at her. She’s had no problem directing them at others in the past.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says she’s being inundated with threats because of Trump’s rhetoric. Violent threats are wrong no matter what.

This is an opportunity for MTG and others on the right to reflect on all the violent threats Trump has incited through the years - including on Jan. 6.

The fixation on individual habits, all obvious enough, is meant to fracture solidarity, laying the obligations of the state, and the blame for its failures and negligence, on each of us. Thus, an atmosphere ripe for fascism evolves.

The calculation here is that battling bigotry is a political loser, which is both an indication of Buttigieg’s amorality, and an admission that he and his ilk don’t believe that an enduring pluralistic democracy is possible in America.

There’s also a gaping chasm between allowing people to redeem themselves and insisting that they be considered as our representatives in positions of great power. Who is saying that Platner is not allowed to redeem himself? Go ahead, be my guest! Just not my representative.
Flippant remarks like this come from a place of believing that the only way we win back men os by leaning into their bigotries, which apparently starts with letting a guy that kept a nazi tattoo on his chest for 18 years & said bigoted things online for years be the Democratic senatorial nominee.

It’s easy to clown on this jackass, but this is the kind of demagoguery that is a precursor to humanity’s greatest crimes.

Trump has pillaged, he has raped, and he has murdered. He’s a modern day marauder, and that’s clearly part of what makes him appealing to the GOP and their base. They are unlikely to ever turn on him, or his kind, which is part of what makes this an existential battle.

How aggressively the “going too far” narrative was pushed only gave away: 1) how far some had personally travelled, or felt entitled to travel, down ugly, immoral paths and 2) how ubiquitous they knew the bad behavior was.

We can have good societies, or we can keep protecting the obscene and the obscenely rich.
Their wealth never trickles down, but their lawlessness and thirst for impunity spreads far and wide, corroding everything necessary to build just, stable societies. They are a menace, and their mere existences are ruinous.

Perhaps the only stable thing in American politics right now is the wave of anti-fascist sentiment and activity in the population. Flaccid, ill-advised Dem leadership won't stop that, and in fact will only stir it up more.

Having a coherent response to a fascist onslaught is difficult, to be sure. Not being able to come up with a coherent message against it, perfectly done here, is what suggests that Dem leadership is truly clueless and rudderless.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."
