it's cool to see translink, the mayors' council and access for everyone doing some self-advocacy to secure more frequent transit through ops funding.

in toronto, this doesn't happen. while some of our board cares about fixing funding, our ceo recently boasted about transit being packed 🙄

It's amazing how TTC can take down activists' signs showing better wayfinding in hours when their own outdated signs stay posted for months, even years. www.thestar.com/news/gta/way... @ttcriders.bsky.social
Way to go? A protest over TTC signs shows what Toronto transit stations could look like

“Our public transit isn’t failing; it’s being intentionally starved.”

Pitch-perfect messaging and framing from @elisejoshi.bsky.social. Transit advocates everywhere: watch this video, learn from it, apply to your local contexts, repeat.

Within hours, TTC took down the signs installed by volunteers this morning.

We'd hoped our helpful suggestions would stick around to help riders navigate.

That's why we're asking Councillors to invest in the TTC's wayfinding strategy in the next budget: tttcriders.ca/wayfinding

Lui on s'y attend.

Lotta big upgrades to the MTA's front-facing user experience in the last 12-18 months. Shows what the agency can do when the leadership isn't getting cycled out every ~nine months after a gubernatorial tantrum.
Say hello to a new subway map! 🗺️

Today, the MTA unveiled a new subway diagram that provides riders with essential travel information in an easily readable, bright, and orderly manner.

Tech people get angry at me when I tell them that I advise transit agencies not to buy the first version of anything.
“Only a few years after starting service, a number of Everett Transit’s fully electric buses are set to fall by the wayside due to reliability issues and a supplier that went bankrupt. The city is set to sell nine of its battery electric buses…” www.heraldnet.com/news/everett...

The buses, built by a now-bankrupt company, had reliability issues for years. The agency’s 10 other electric buses don’t have those problems.

Traffic evaporation happens every time you narrow roadways or charge tolls, but we still have to convince electeds and planners every single time that it works because they never believe it.

This is very sad. Our last mighty department store. You could see the decline over the years. Hoped it could make it thru.

Other countries can maintain a busy dept store (Spain, recently, 9 floors of busyness at the El Corte Inglés, Japan's were great, Ke De We in Berlin, John Lewis in London...).

No question: Most people would prefer door-to-door, on-demand trips over a fixed-route bus. The problem is that each trip on microtransit/ridehail is *massively subsidized*.

Over time, the transit agency has only bad options:
- Spend additional $$ on on-demand
- Ration trips
- Let service degrade
On-Demand Microtransit Can’t Escape This Big Problem
The allure of cheap, responsive, door-to-door transit service is seductive. It’s too bad that it doesn’t work.

CTA is introducing a 10-minute bus network to chicago this month across 8 routes, expanding to 20 bus routes by year-end 🥳

it stands out from other US "frequent" networks:

-runs every 10 min or better as opposed to every 15

-effective 7-days a week, all-day from 6am-9pm (9am-9pm weekends)
