I don't like this type of curb ramp design either. But why do we end up with ones that look like this? Some aspects of curb ramp design:
Yes, the city needs to actually repave streets. Yes, the city needs to repair sidewalks. Yes, the city needs to install curb ramps.

But the bigger problem is that when LA decides to do anything at all to "help" pedestrians, the result looks like this complete and utter bullshit

I’m not gonna dunk on some small depressed account, but one reply I get to this is “you think there’s gonna be elections/Trump will listen to judges??” And I wonder how people haven’t noticed that Garcia is home and free and Republicans got crushed in elections this year
We Are Going to Win
Trump's revolution will fail, but we still have a long and painful road ahead of us.

The magic of scheduling!
Have you ever seen BART’s Grand Meet?

It’s our nightly ritual at MacArthur BART station!

All four platforms fill with the lasts trains of the night for a timed transfer at 12:51 a.m. so riders can get anywhere in the system.

Watch to see how our system planners make it happen!

Interesting… the Latin root of the English word decide/decision is ”to cut“ and the equivalent Thai word is ตัดสินใจ that could be decomposed as to cut (ตัด) something (สิน) from one’s heart/mind (ใจ).

The equity case for infrequent buses at low fares only makes sense if you believe low income people’s time has no value or that they don’t value their time.
Every transit professional knows this, but equity
Transit's main competition is cars. If you raise fares from $2.50 to $3, you're still way more affordable than driving. But if you cut the bus from every 15 to every 20, you're screwed because cars have infinity frequency and 24 hr service span.

This is giving me flashbacks to college where my local student ITE chapter volunteered to collect vehicle, pedestrian, and parking demand data at a coffee shop with drive-thru service somewhere in Ballard. It was in 2008, after this comically bad example was exposed.
Chapters 2-4 of the late, great UCLA Professor Donald Shoup’s book The High Cost of Free Parking exposed modern parking planning as pseudoscientific nonsense so thoroughly that many states and major cities have thrown out parking requirements entirely.

A city’s post in July on allowing corner stores and making parking optional had many comments saying council ignored the public. But then in November voters (re-)elected all candidates that supported it. One commenter ran for council to stop policies like it and lost by 27 points. So much for that.

I never noticed it but I’ve been told that most pork raised in the U.S. smells unpleasant to Thai and Asian palates. This post explains: industrialized farming, "Boar taint", long supply chains; and the fix: wash pork in salt & vinegar or flour, render fat first, buy pastured or from Asian markets.

Same, plus Thai twitter, even though I only peek at it like once a month these days.
this is my last strong tether to twitter/x -- 1000x more people tweeting about Japanese and Korean transit, politics, urbanism, culture, movies, art, history in their native languages than here on Bluesky
I understand why this X user would say this, but I think this wave of mass exodus might have more staying power because many current Bluesky users don't speak Japanese and Korean, meaning the dooming will be contained in the English-language clusters while other users would just go like the art.

This is so important if you want Bluesky to become a global independent platform. Twitter/X is *HUGE* in Japan and this might destroy it there.
Elon Musk fixing Bluesky's notorious problems attracting brands and government/quasi-governmental institutions by personally chasing the entire Japanese internet off Twitter for no reason
If — if! — Elon Musk's Generative AI "edit image" button forces Japanese video game companies like Capcom, Nintendo, and Sega to jump ship, it would be the greatest Christmas gift Bluesky has ever received. These companies are notoriously obsessive about protecting their intellectual property.

Japanese posters are so much more organized than Americans lmao: @catclub.bsky.social, which runs the #blueskyねこ部 hashtag, requires users to register their cat's name and birth date before receiving a virtual membership card that allows their cat photos to be seen by the broader audience lol

Very cool that Safeway sells Mae Ploy brand Thai curry paste. If you want to cook a Thai green or red curry, this is the one to get. Price can't be beat either. 1/5 the price per ounce of the competing non-Thai brand!
