At some point I have to assume these raids target those people protesting the environmental harm being done my Musk’s data center.
Memphis is experiencing gestapo-style raids 24/7 now. Our local media is failing us and the national media is ignoring this black/blue/incredibly poor city in a red state. I guess we just aren’t as sexy as LA or Portland.

Once again I state my idea that all such payments should come from the union/pension plan/police benevolent society.

Why do citizens have to pay for this from city coffers?
BREAKING: The City Council voted unanimously to pay $17M to a man who spent 27 years in prison after he was convicted of a double murder he did not commit, bringing the total cost of settling 9 lawsuits naming disgraced former CPD Detective Reynaldo Guevara to $112M, records show. @wttw.bsky.social
Cost to Resolve Lawsuits Tied to Disgraced Ex-CPD Detective Tops $112M, with 44 Lawsuits Pending

I think this is a point of view worth keeping in mind when thinking about Patton Oswalt's suspension
Just gotta say as a trans person who gets death threats couched as "jokes", I'm glad that the rules are being applied this way. When mods are left to make subjective decisions about who is joking and who isn't, threats against marginalized ppl go unmoderated and we are told they dont violate the TOS

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

This is why humanities/Arts&Sciences degrees are so important. Because those degrees give you the tools to watch BLACK MIRROR and understand that those stories are a warning, and not an inspiration.

Tonight, on Kid Diddlers Think Big Thoughts: Can anything really be illegal?
Jeffrey Epstein was developing a series, moderated by @lkrauss1.bsky.social, to bring scientists and celebrities together. The first season would include an episode where "Woody Allen talks about the human condition with Linguist Noam Chomsky."

I’m not crossing picket lines due to the strike, but can I just register my annoyance that in last month’s wave of closings, Starbucks closed two out of my 3 regular locations. Rude.

'Matt Gaetz Raped A Homeless Teenager' is what you mean.

A teenager with a homeless parent? What? The fuck? Did she have a home and not allow her parent to live in it? Ended up having sex with? What? Yeah clearly you guys been caping for pedos long enough and you understand the assignment here
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

The way they keep going to the mortgage fraud well, and the well-documented projection issues, I have to wonder, how much mortgage fraud has Trump committed in his life?

I've said it before, but Stitt is really working for the non-MAGA, non-insane GOP presidential nom.
BREAKING: Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt stops the scheduled execution of Tremane Wood today, commuting his sentence to life without parole.

In doing so, Stitt accepted the recommendation of the Pardon and Parole Board. This is Stitt’s second death-sentence commutation as governor.

GOP desperately waiting/hoping/praying for discovery of an email FROM Trump like, “Jeff what you are doing is wrong! I disavow you!” forgetting that Trump has never emailed and never used a computer.
CNN: Do you still have a question about whether Donald Trump knew about the sexual abuse at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein?

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

This is what male solidarity & collective action to oppress women looks like:
