*She really needs a "Leatherman Survival Tool," but it she was allowed to buy one of those gadgets on the open market, then she would instantly become a Westernized pin-up-girl instead of a proletarian heroine of socialist-labor

*That's nice. What do they plausibly plan to do about those "demographic headwinds" when there's nobody left #OldPeople #BigCities #AfraidofSky
There's a plausible correlation there via governments leaning into exports to compensate for demographic headwinds. See e.g. Krugman here on China, although specific mechanisms differ.

For your holiday ambiance, I've made a hypnotic yule log fireplace with ultra slow motion macro footage of flames stretching & warping like liquid as fire reacts with calcium chloride & barium. This is real fire I filmed, not CGI or AI.

10hrs, 4K, crackling sounds, no music, no ads. Happy holidays!

*Look," the AI remarked perceptively, "this fact may make you want to kill yourself, but when you live in a Big Tech oligarchy, your individual life has no inherent value"

"Oh. and by the way: don't have kids. We've got robots"
Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides

*This is true of my Bluesky tweets, too, so expect to spend 2026 staring for half-at-hour at some squib that me and my pet-AI composed in 15 seconds

*If you look at the history of the "Leatherman Survival Tool," it's all about some engineer from Portland attempting to assert his ideals of personal agency in run-down, decaying Communist regimes
My coworker never lets me not know how handy his Arc is.

*I'm quite the multitool evangelist myself -- but perhaps the theatrical security-experts at airports worldwide are quite right, and the general populace should never be allowed pliers and scissors
My coworker never lets me not know how handy his Arc is.

*Swell concept. How would you enforce that law without converting some language to numbers
everyone focusing on the regulation of matrix multiplication when the real culprit is simple: it should be illegal to convert language to numbers

*This is also an interesting trend, so next year I'll have Google Nano Banana visualize this for me as well

*Go ahead, ditch your touchscreen iPhone, and replace it with a boutique, tactile, grippy Leatherman Arc

*Great opportunity next year to send Chinese humanoid robots into the construction trades

*If they're tele-operated over the border by Mexican "Sleep Dealer" guys, so much the better

South Texas homebuilders say ICE arrests have slowed work
More than 380 people attended an impromptu meeting that industry leaders in the Rio Grande Valley hosted to draw attention to the chilling effect ICE arrests have had on construction.

"Zeosunlight" has been doing rather a lot of these experiments as China works its way up to a Robot Boxer Rebellion

*Keen to see how that goes, so I'll have it periodically visualised by Nano Banana
Gonna go all in on AI optimization in 2026. Gonna read 1000 books (summarized). Gonna use LLMs to fold all the proteins. Will ask Midjourney to create drugs and diseases and IMAGINE. Time is important but so is family so my wife and I will only communicate through the ChatGPT API

*Well, yeah, maybe... but don't pick a sci-fi author who was writing sci-fi full of 1990s pomo "critical discourse" 26 years ago
December 26, 2025 at 10:43 AM
*The state of critical discourse makes it mighty hard to insert a possibly-useful neologism such as "interpolatable archives" and have anybody actually use that term.

*Even it's clearer and better than the verbal sludge in wide use

"Interpolatable archives took my job", that's not gonna fly
I think the "pro-AI" thing comes from people slapping the label on everything. LLMs as *models of language* --interpolatable archives as i term them-- have a lot of usecases, and if stating this simple fact gets you in trouble, this says more about the state of critical AI discourse than AI.
December 26, 2025 at 10:06 AM
*For 2026, I'm getting interested in humans adapting AI-delvish as a human-to-human dialect. You read that AI-newspeak so much and so often that you casually and sincerely think that way and talk that way

*The way that a politics-fan sops-up and internalizes The Party's talking-points
Is AI “intelligent?” Obviously not. I think we’re going to recognize that more often going forward. But does it write? Obviously. It writes without intelligence. But it writes. And we have to grapple with this issue — AI is not a new form of intelligence but it is a new form of language.

*I quite like these existent, actual-technical-problems, as opposed to vague, handwavey, Torment-Nexus issues like "why would any sane person ever want to do 'Novel View Synthesis' in the first place"
