it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

Congratulations Seattle Times for a clean sweep in the 2025 election—for mayor, city attorney, and city council, all of your endorsed candidates lost!

Wilson's win means an end to heavy-handed corporate patronage in the mayor's office going back to 2013, a lineage running from the serial child predator who resigned in disgrace to the mayor who inherited all his donors & teargassed the city, to the guy who supported both of them to the bitter end

THE GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN CAUCUS IS BACK, MOTHERFUCKERS
I think it’s now safe to call this race.

Progressive urban planner Katie Wilson defeats centrist incumbent Bruce Harrell and will become Seattle’s next mayor.
Seattle's mayor race update:

Katie Wilson's lead grows to 1,346 votes over and incumbent corporate-Democrat Bruce Harrell.

Kate Wilson won 61.23% of the 6,121 ballots counted today.

Overall total:

Katie Wilson 50.08% 137,217
Bruce Harrell 49.59% 135,871
Write-in 0.33% 908

the Washington Post, *even in its degenerate state as a mouthpiece for fascism*, should not have to print an article on something this dumb

it’s a profound failure of society that people even consider this now
Under-the-weather TikTokers are slicing raw potatoes and placing them in their — and their children’s — socks before bed. The theory is that the potato draws out toxins.

However, experts warn against relying on folk remedies over medical care.
No, putting a potato in your sock will not cure a cold

This is unironically true, the fractional distilling of fossil fuels and natural gas leads to a surprisingly pure end product of propane, where-as other outputs like gas are carefully managed mixed composites of many variable compounds only managed into a tolerably consistent, treated product later.

This is where I remind the class that Matt Taibbi and Mark Ames' memoir about being American expats in 90s Russia where they talked about how awesome it was to sexually assault teenage girls had its foreward written by Limonov
Yeah, it's amazing how few people have heard about / remember this.

Ever heard of this guy? He participated.

"Russian writer, poet, publicist, political dissident and politician." The wikipedia article doesn't seem to mention the war crimes tourism.

I’ve said this many times but it’s worth repeating:

When it comes to voting, we have an Election Day deadline.

When it comes to election results, we have an Election Week.

The more media sets this expectation, the less confusion and more trust we’ll have in our great vote by mail system. #waelex

Whoops, David Axelrod--Katie Wilson saw a normal progressive vote shift for Seattle, meaning her result was *predictable* (even if not certain).

Maybe don't claim victory for crappy establishment politicians quite so quickly next time?
Yes! Especially in WA.
A good reminder for @cnn.com and the guys in this video.
