the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

Happy “Do I Still Remember How To Make A Video Game” Eve!!!!!

completely honestly, why make a game, just publish a pdf
If you asked a nation of games developers whether it's rude to "assume you understand what the player wants more than the player does", you would spark a civil war.

This is precisely why the idea of getting genAI to make infinite media is not only anti-human but deeply stupid. What I’m looking for is the taste of a human to craft an experience.
Game design as a discipline stems from the premise that you know what the player "wants" better than the player does, at least some of the time, in the sense that you must be opinionated about what the experience of the game is... that's what game design is. That's the job.

Not only that but there is are decades of bipartisan violations of sovereignty to capture or kill people the US doesn’t like. Once we accept that we’re unconstrained by that and the people who do that suffer no consequences it’s just a matter of individual judgment as to who is “bad enough” to

Americans love to pretend that Trump is an aberration and that other US admins wouldn’t have been this brazen.

However, US General Smedley Butler was open about the role the US plays and always has played back in 1933.

Do you think the Slack app is going to change its icon to the colors of the Venezuelan flag in support of that country’s people being unjustly attacked by a rogue country, like they did for Ukraine?

If you want to understand why this is galling just imagine every time a politician or newsperson discussed the holocaust they opened with “statistically speaking there were almost certainly a decent number of rapists, pedophiles and otherwise assholes sent to the camps. Nevertheless,”
"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

It's illegal for the president to relieve student loan debt. It's completely fine for the president to unilaterally decide to have the head of a foreign nation black bagged on foreign soil.

Can’t do anything in power. Can’t do anything out of power. Weirdly they’re the only party that never has any power or voice, regardless of the situation
I love you all and am holding your hand as I say this:

Dems wield zero hard power levers
it's kind of crazy that there's even any question that democrats are going to do anything about this

Yeah I think actually it’s a misreading of this to say it’s “about” oil. I think trump is dumb enough to think it’s about oil but it’s really about restating the bipartisan project to establish American hegemony over the western hemisphere.
This is true in a broad and vague sense but it is also true that the US is a net exporter of oil and there is absolutely no actual resource pressure creating any real incentive to invade Venezuela. The oil isn't even worth it.
Allow me to connect some dots for you:

Too much of the world currently relies for its basic functions on resources which must be continuously extracted. You burn that oil one time and oops, now you need more.

Geopolitical horrors are, in fact, one of the reasons we need to move to renewables ASAP.

if you are talking today about how bad maduro was and were alive, at all, during the run-up to the iraq war you are potentially the dumbest person to ever live
January 3, 2026 at 5:00 PM
The mistake is thinking this is about laws or fairness or even really trump. The US has been ignoring the sovereignty of nations across the world for a hundred years or more basically uninterrupted. It’s bipartisan and frankly the only defense is nukes in range of something the US cares about
by not punishing trump for invading and bombing venezuela, it would now be legal to invade whatever country you want and capture it’s leader? i assume that can be done to the united states too?
January 3, 2026 at 5:00 PM
really striking that a q khan was dramatically more effective at defending state sovereignty than the entire organization of the UN. Clearer than ever that there’s one thing you need to guarantee your sovereignty and Venezuela/Iraq/Iran/Ukraine didn’t have it.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

If you're an American (or from another similar western nation) I cannot stress enough that you should look into the history of the atrocities the USA has committed in South America. This is not new and we cannot let the horrific crimes perpetuated in this nation's name repeat
