A reason NYT has gone this direction is that they're the ref the Right has spent the last 30 years working.
They don't fear Left criticism in the same way, and won't till made to.

Reporters covering Trump are not the same reporters assigned to cover the NYC mayor's race. Beat reporters have to develop sources and that takes time so you can't just switch beats with every story. So no, a reporter covering the NYC race is not going to suddenly do a Trump story, and vice versa.
So when Trump is running for president, stories about him are less newsworthy than when Mamdani is running for NYC mayor? Fascinating, continue, you're doing really well.

More broadly, when all these clowns said Tyrannical Wokeness Has Gone Too Far, they specifically meant e.g. effective mass campaigns against elite impunity for sexual offending; the police murdering citizens in broad daylight, and allied governments being overthrown in the Arab Spring.
As @flyingrodent.bsky.social has pointed out repeatedly, the Harvey Weinstein scandal directly challenged the elite impunity and degeneracy that Jeffrey Epstein typified, and the response was a deranged, all-channels backlash to make clear such uppity behaviour wouldn’t be tolerated from the plebs.
Extra maddening because we are currently living through the backlash to #MeToo, which was attempting to address precisely behaviours and attitudes like this! We are living in the reaction to a movement that attempted to confront this mysterious behaviour head on!

This whole thread is good but I have direct experience with this part. I worked at Bass Pro Shops HQ in 2008-2009 and people panic-buying ammo because “obama’s gonna take our guns” almost single-handedly got the company through the recession.
The moment elections results came out, Dec. 2008 well into 2009 was a MASSIVE PANIC on guns and ammo. You couldn't even find a box of hunting ammo for Grandpappy's old lever action deer rifle. And an AR and the ammo for it? LOL. Nah. *IF* you found it, it was 10x normal prices.
