Due to recent discussions: when I worked at a library, I was trained on how to politely but directly respond to unwanted sexual comments. Unfortunately commonly-marketed fantasies about librarians mean it happens a lot.

as someone who did name and shame alongside multiple women, it was BRUTAL - while I don’t and frankly can’t regret it I would not recommend it to anyone. There’s an entire system of right wing misogyny that goes after you whilst even the most well-meaning male colleagues send you support in the DMs

as someone who did name and shame alongside multiple women, it was BRUTAL - while I don’t and frankly can’t regret it I would not recommend it to anyone. There’s an entire system of right wing misogyny that goes after you whilst even the most well-meaning male colleagues send you support in the DMs

Yeah I v much agree with this — and also that here on social media someone may be following you for one thing, and predisposed to listen bc they agreed with you or liked a thing you made, and are therefore more open to your other opinions and arguments, esp if you’re not a condescending prick
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.
