I got into this HVAC game for the action.
If a reality TV show aired 20+ years ago, I just assume that everyone from that show is dead. When I learn otherwise, I always find it surprising and, frankly, in rather poor taste. Show's over, Orange County Chopper guy. Get outta here.

I keep crawling back to the Ikea Billy. Embarrassing.
it’s a particular kind of humiliation for a long time book person to search the depths of their soul and their abode and say “damn, can’t believe I need another bookcase”

It seems like Greg Bovino doesn't realize that he's doomed to be a small footnote in the chapter of AP US History textbooks titled "America's Failed Attempt at a Fourth Reich." He thinks he's cooking.

it’s an odd feeling: there are dozens of people in my neighborhood whose names I don’t even know, but whose now-familiar voices give me strength and who I’d literally trust with my life. there are thousands in Minneapolis who I know I share an overriding purpose with - almost all anonymous to me

It's fun how Mendelssohn kept revising Symphony 4, but for ~170 years the entire classical musical world has said "yeah, but no" and kept performing the original revision. Anyway, V1 Mendelssohn was cooking.

1. We are living in the Golden Age of high-quality, well-designed paperback editions of Lud-in-the-Mist, which used to be impossible to find.

2. Julio Rodriguez is on a Hall of Fame trajectory, and we get to watch him in a Mariners uniform for another decade.

3. They sell 8lb buckets of tahini now
This site needs a break.
Post three good things, none of which are the cessation of a negative.

I love the idea of Everyman's Library and Library of America editions, but goddamn I wish they used thicker paper. My eyes cannot handle the ghost-text behind the page I'm trying to read.

It's an administration staffed almost entirely by the guys who get fired for looking at porn on their work computers instead of sending that spreadsheet their boss asked for.

Hard agree. I'm increasingly just zero sympathy for the cowardly chauvinists who can't handle places where lots of different people get along together.
I realise I'm just a freak, but living in a multicultural city is the best thing of all time, it's just the best possible human experience and i can not understand why anyone on earth would be like "weve got to destroy this"

Also, think tanks working with Randy Barnett don't let him near their interns anymore.
Three generations of law professors making history up is enough.

Scholars spend decades researching and writing history with nuance and care.

American law professors will take a couple of months to relearn all of science to explain why the world is, in fact, flat.

I have the utmost respect for Senator Kaine and Senator Warner but we do not need “coaching” on redistricting coming from a cuck chair in the corner. How about you all stay focused on the fascist in the White House and let us handle redistricting in Virginia. 10-1

Coordinated a beer drop by a white friend to deliver a 30-rack of Hamm’s to a Hispanic friend’s doorstep because his wife wouldn’t let him leave the house to go buy more beer for fear he’d be brutalized by lawless armed masked federal paramilitaries. This is Minnesota community. We take care of us.

Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.
