this is your mission. our pedophile president needs you to jump out of a helicopter to kidnap a head of state and his wife so some oil ceos can make a lot of money. we’ll be watching from a resort in florida that still serves wedge salad and checking how many retweets we get. good luck soldier

Living in the woods is fun, but cities are where we realize the promise of America.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

happy new year from the west coast. my 2026 resolution feels both very small and yet large: I intend to make at least one person’s year easier than it would have been without me.

Taking away our cars can, should, and will be treated as a declaration of war upon rural America.
I find "America isn't really set up for it" to be an annoying rebuttal to any sort of proposal to reduce car dependency. Our leaders used policy to create a system of car dependency and we can sure as hell use policy to undo that. There are absolutely barriers, but do nothing is not a solution.

Well, then it's a good thing we've reduced their troop mobility. Have fun marching the 3rd Podunk Infantry Regiment 120 miles to reach Detroit.

I am (recreationally, non-academically) extremely interested in Classics and adjacent stuff, and it is pretty fucking annoying that so many of the people I interact with in this space have become "anti-woke" / tweedy fascists / reactionaries.
Three, it is a big problem for the humanities that the only programs that appear to be robustly hiring medievalists and classicists are places like the Hamilton Center and its sister programs that are sprouting up at campuses across the country.

*reading 365 days* wow truly one of the great poets and artists of our time; now let me just open Bluesky and see what he’s up to
no, that was pre Twitter migration, we don’t call them skeets now. style guide says they’re called ejaculating into a spoon. so for example you don’t say “did you see that guy’s skeet” you say “did you see where that guy ejaculated into a spoon on Bluesky”

So is the reason all these dorks name their evil companies Sauron and shit JUST vice signalling?

Or are there some blog-posts-as-sacred-texts floating around with a reading of LOTR where Sauruman and Sauron are good technologists (best represented by Sharkey)?

TIL that Brigitte Bardot stopped being cool ("let's sabotage whaling vessels!") and returned to her roots (French, extremely racist) a long time ago. Darn.
