The company is run by the husband of Noem’s chief DHS spokesperson and has personal and business ties to Noem and her aides. DHS invoked the “emergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rule...

President Trump is shutting down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – the agency in charge of capping credit card fees, protecting your private data, and taking on predatory payday lenders. This move is a handout for Wall Street at the expense of working people.
Trump administration declares CFPB funding illegal
The decision, disclosed in a court filing, puts the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on track to shut down in ‘early 2026’ when its remaining cash runs out.

Mafia governance in action

"the only offer on the table was that I needed to resign by 5pm that day or the DOJ would basically rain hell on UVA... If I did not resign that day, I was told that the DOJ would extract/block hundreds of millions of dollars from UVA before they would even negotiate."

On the Technically Accurate Point Megyn is Trying to Make and Why it Makes Her an Even Bigger Monster:

In MK’s defense, the word pedophilia technically describes adult sexual attraction to prepubescent children and is broadly defined as adult sexual
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

Especially given how much is being ignored. Nobody — And I repeat, NOBODY in media is adequately documenting the atrocities happening in Memphis. We are rarely even mentioned among cities under Federal occupation.
It strikes me that it’s going to be up to us to make sure there is a cultural memory for what’s been happening in the last 15 years. It’s clear that if we don’t force a drastic change of perspective on basically every institution, all of this will get memory holed or “reinterpreted” to be less awful

another manifestation of this is when you criticize the right and somebody tsk tsks "they say the same thing about the left," like, yeah, somebody is lying, are you interested in who? because the answer is easily discoverable
Perfect example of political media operating under the post-truth standard that (1) distorts the facts until the parties look approximately equal, and (2) holds “do MAGA voters care?” as a higher standard than “is it true?” or “is it important for the public to know about this?”
Wild to watch playbook run cover for this particular Trump scandal

Yep.
The follow up to all of these should always be "Why?" or "Is it not a top priority to find out if the President is a pedophile?"

Yep.
The idea that sexual abuse is part of “private” life instead of a public crisis has done incalculable damage. Anti-rape activists have to fight to even make it possible to expose sexual abuse as a wrongdoing in public without being silenced and undermined. That fight is far from won

Memphis is experiencing gestapo-style raids 24/7 now. Our local media is failing us and the national media is ignoring this black/blue/incredibly poor city in a red state. I guess we just aren’t as sexy as LA or Portland.

Credit schmedit. Make examples of the ones who voted for the CR. Shane loudly and demand immediate resignation. Show the hidden supporters what public life looks like when they betray their people.
I don’t care who the secret supporters are. I care what they see as a result of what’s been done
The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

What Liz said.
Trans people aren’t the ones trying desperately to take away our healthcare or food benefits or kill public education or all the other things the GOP is destroying.
A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.
