Anecdotally (but I guess reflected in broader research) I was just talking to two friends who both work in software, and they complained that recent hires are so dependent on ChatGPT that these hires' own problem-solving skills are almost non-existent.
We can't really say this enough...

> Anastasia Berg [at UCL Irvine] said that new research — and what she's hearing directly from colleagues across various industries — shows that employees who heavily rely on AI are losing core skills at a startling rate.

Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

So I did likewise and looked at all properties in Ireland with a valuation of 2.2 million euro or over currently for sale. Overall, this is 190 properties - they are unsurprisingly heavily concentrated in the Greater Dublin Area. Overall, there are total 14,290 properties for sale across the country

Because this is from Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are *Dead*, and is about acting, this is making me think about the ending of the Sopranos (which I watched yesterday). Cos it’s meta: a “character” sometimes just stops being on stage, on your TV, in a series, in a play.

Exit.

And that’s death.
“--it's not gasps and blood and falling about---that isn't what makes it death. It's just a man failing to reappear, that's all ---now you see him, now you don't, that the only thing that's real: here one minute and gone the next and never coming back...”

RIP Tom Stoppard. He left a fantastic body of work - playful with language, and serious about ideas of democracy, liberalism and freedom.

A pretty impressive amount of pollution for just 60 years of space flight.
Most of us don't realize how many objects (payloads and debris) are in orbit around Earth.

How is this a shock to anyone who's been paying even the most minimal attention to what Trump has been saying and his admin have been doing all year? I posted this in February, for example. Officials who simply chose not to believe it because it's all too difficult might want to rethink their career

Demolishing the East Wing of the White House before finalizing plans for what will be built above its ruins is a near-perfect metaphor for Trump's approach to economic policy. The only difference is the wrecking crew doesn’t claim the rubble is evidence of unprecedented growth.

Brexit is the gift that keeps on giving. You get charged customs duty if you ship from Ireland to GB, but not NI. But you can't be charged for bringing a parcel from NI to GB, because it's all UK. So presumably there are lads in Newry setting up a staging depot.

Gifts and business parcels shipped from Ireland to be hit with new UK customs duty
New customs charges will kick in from 2029 on packages sent from Ireland to Britain, including those from small businesses and family members, if the value of goods shipped is over £135 (€150).

People still not grasping this. You deter illicit trade by increasing chance of discovery & prosecution. Either by a shared database & being under mutually recognised legal authority, on a SM, or with an *effective* BF against DIFF legally regulated territories. UK now has neither with regards to EU
When we were in the EU we didn't inspect the shipments so we had no idea of the problem. Now we do inspections we find issues. Your kebab's have been made with this stuff for decades😂

One thing this tells you is that this hasn’t gone through any kind of approval process. You need a design before it can be approved.
