Once again, a thread for the Brexit ignorant

1/ All countries start with their own market standards, regulated & customs territory. If an outsider wants to sell on it you must prove you meet its standards & pay a tariff at its border
It *is* quite funny really.
The EU agreed a *tariff free* (& quota free) deal with the UK & they're "punishing us" for giving us what we wanted.(*We* did not want the SM/CU closer deal)
The US/Trump regime shit on us (increased tariffs over Biden) & they're "our best friends"..according to Brexiters

Seriously how did anyone expect making access & sales into the EU27 (& EFTA4) much more difficult, without making it *equally* compensating easier to access & sell anywhere else (it's not in UK's sole gift to), going to do anything else other than fuck over & contract the UK economy?

The UK was a blueprint for the EU concept i.e. a customs union, single market & common travel area (Schengen).
For consistency if you're in the ("sanctity of the nation state") "condemn & hate the EU" camp you should also be in the "condemn & hate the UK" ("better together") camp

Surely all those (MAGA) idiots will *now* realise they (not foreign countries) pay any tariffs Trump decides should be his trade "policy"???

@vivamjm.bsky.social not sure if you can access BBC player Michael but this is genuinely jaw dropping.

UK to EU: "Can we have a SPS deal please?"

BBC: "the EU told the UK if they don't give them their lunch money, they will get a serious battering behind the bike sheds later. innit."
No BBC bias latest!

I cannot think of a more twisted way of reporting what's happening in brussels between EU & UK.

The Brexit "news" never is. The choices were always the "self harm" of ("take back control") greater rocketing prices for less choice or (no control) unilaterally advantaging the EU .& smugglers

Type of reporting BBC should be doing, from @philmoorhouse.bsky.social
With caveat: there are now no British Standards for imports(enforcement of UKCA is abandoned, as is SPS control of TCA border); anything goes

The mansion house speech last week was really more for financial markets than UKvoters. Reeves was waving a big sign saying "I won't do a Truss!".

Quick 🧵on why tax rises means the majority of brits can't say "Brexit hasn't really affected me" anymore.

TL;DR: There's no Sunlit uplands Shocker!

Very Interesting on why the convoluted border in Ireland remains way it is; how both Ireland & UK joining SM together in 1993 resolved all these issues *forever*
& why Brexit would've brought it all (resurrected BPs & limited crossings) back, so resulting in the NIP share.google/0MAcmxTDpHHD...
How a plan to redraw the Irish border fell apart
In the early years of partition, the exact line the border took was still very much up for debate.
