I wonder how the British Olympic Association/Team GB will react to this. It'd surely be illegal for them to support such a policy – direct discrimination on the basis of gender reassignment status.

It's exasperating to witness how almost everyone everywhere in any position of power if any kind currently seems pre-occupied with doing unnecessary but seriously harmful things. They could be doing truly important and valuable things to make positive, meaningful changes and yet they choose harm.

This is utterly shocking. The Olympic spirit is about inclusive humanity and kindness.

The discriminatory harm of a blanket ban on trans and intersex people taking part in Olympic sport as women couldn’t be further from the ideal.
The International Olympic Committee is set to ban trans and intersex women from competition. This is despite the fact that for 20 years, the IOC has allowed trans athletes to compete and only 1 has ever competed and none have ever won a medal.

If you care about the coordinated assault on trans rights and on our democracy, read this research from A Just Society.

“This is strategic, funded, coordinated litigation being used as a policy change tool”.
Who's Funding the War on Trans Inclusion?

“The stated goal of strategic litigation is rarely to win every case. It’s to make the target behaviour—in this case, implementing trans-inclusive policies—expensive, risky, and exhausting”

Such is the power of @zackpolanski.bsky.social that he's prompted the Daily Express(!) to write a totally respectful article about the meaning of the white poppy

Green party leader Zack Polanski was seen sporting a white poppy alongside a red one for Remembrance Sunday today - but what does a white poppy mean?

👌 Pitch perfect interview by my Assembly colleague @zackpolanski.bsky.social calmly answering every question.

Especially loved his answer on why wearing both a red and a white poppy too.

The response from Cycling UK exposes critical flaws with the ruling. 🤦‍♀️

We hope their commitment to trans and non-binary people won't "third gender" us. 🙅

It's telling that they don't even acknowledge intersex people, who lack protections in EA2010. They may be the biggest losers in this.
I was included in the @cyclinguk.bsky.social 2017 list of 100 women in cycling and am dismayed to see their transphobia.

The Supreme Court ruling may have enabled organisations to be transphobic but it does not mandate that.

Cycling UK can and should be as inclusive as they say they wish to be.

The dire situation of TfL workers expecting to transition from graduate visas to skilled worker visas but facing deportation due to cruel and abrupt government visa changes is picked up in the Sunday Times.

I raised this with the Mayor last month so am glad to see he has ⏱️ now written to Mike Tapp.

The ultimate aim should be that all pedestrian crossings are green for pedestrians by default and motorists should have to press a button to activate the lights so they can cross the footway.
Unless there's an unbreakably valid safety reason why not, all button-operated pedestrian crossings should activate the lights in pedestrians' favour instantly when pressed.

When I found out that I'm intersex I knew, statistically, there were lots of other people like me out there, but only about a dozen were publicly visible. It has been a great joy to me to watch this movement grow over the decades and begin to exert real pressure for our human rights to be respected.

I am a little late to this, but I have also requested my name and face to be removed from @cyclinguk.bsky.social publicity due to the decision to remove trans women from their awards.

Trans women are women, gender is on a spectrum (and I did a genetics degree), and cycling is for everyone. 🏳️‍⚧️🚲❤️
Like many others, I am disappointed and angry about the decision by @cyclinguk.bsky.social to change the eligibility criteria for Women in Cycling 2025 to exclude trans women.

Trans women are women 🏳️‍⚧️

I have requested for my name and face to be removed.

🏊‍♀️The women who swim at Kenwood Ladies Pond have already made their decision.

In 2024, almost 900 members voted to keep their trans-inclusive policy - a policy that has worked peacefully since 2019.

Now, a small campaign group is seeking to overturn that democratic decision through the courts.

IMHO they had poor legal advice.

That's no excuse. But orgs that want to be inclusive need to be bolder. Being overtly inclusive WILL result in being shouted at and, possibly, threatened with legal action. But compliance in advance is at the top of a very slippery slope...

I was at the Spurs v Chelsea match a week ago

Two Spurs fans near me used that homophobic slur

I called them out - not an easy or safe thing to do, especially as a woman in that environment

But once I did, others turned and stared them down

They went quiet after that

Speaking up matters
The prospect of a three-year ban is a strong deterrent from Man Utd for fans using discriminatory language, including on social media.

Importantly, there’s also an appeals process, and the club’s #LGBTQ supporters group calls for education.

A morning learning about level access and when legally compliant gaps need a mini ramp to make them properly accessible.

Big thanks to TfL - Met the man who designed mini ramps and surveyed 128 locations they were needed.
