Just saw @adamconover.net do standup and felt very seen (called the fuck out?) by his set as a queer librarian from long island who fucking hates little free libraries

Finally got all my ducks in a row!

Wood ducks in the rain. One of the few ducks that perch on branches (or fences). Seen on our morning walk.

Thinking about this for no particular reason tonight, other than the fact that we need to have longer collective memories.

I love when people introduce their cats because it almost always comes with a little caveat at the end like this is Mrs. Strawberry Shortcake MD don’t ever turn your back on her if you know what’s good for you

"Bluesky is awesome now, for how long?" I mean, look, all things change and end, we will all die, earth will be uninhabitable in a billion years, then the sun will expand and destroy the planet, and the universe will die a slow death of proton decay. But BEFORE THAT, let's make this place fun, okay?

These examples comes up a lot but: libraries throw away A LOT of books, and no, we don't want your boxes of dusty old books and magazines.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

It's not just local media, all journalism is catastrophically threatened right now. We never found a business model to replace print ads and classified ads. No one is making a profit, including many of the biggest fish.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater.

(It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)

the grief of rehoming a pet is so weird. Like I’m crying every day because I miss my cat so much, but he’s not dead, he’s having the time of his life with his new family not even four miles away from me

Once again begging people to stop playing into parents rights by saying parents have the right to decide what their children get to read. Children have rights, and "parents rights" is a backdoor to book banning.

A thing that would genuinely help my mental health, in case anyone ostensibly my friend or professional acquaintance was wondering, would be seeing people who on the internet said “I stand with Israel” on Oct 7, publicly say “I was wrong, this is horrific, I do not stand with a genocidal state.”

It's so cool when a restaurant has an Instagram account instead of a website. I don't even want to see your menu. One photograph of a signature cocktail or pasta posted every week is plenty for me! Leave something to the imagination!
