I like how JD Vance's position is now basically "when I called Trump Hitler back in 2016 I meant it as a criticism and I now regret that, but when 30 year old Republican staffers call Trump Hitler today and mean it as a compliment then that's just fine."

Such a superb framing.
"but I shouldn't have to be nice! I care about Justice!" that's great, go hang out with the Paladins of St. Cuthbert instead of doing politics then

I wonder why there are 500 news articles framing Zohran Mamdani as an antisemite for opposing genocide but none framing Elon Musk as an antisemite for hating Jews
Musk has adjusted Grok’s algorithm so it’s now a neo-Nazi.

Pretty cool that almost every progressive commentator, elected official and organization still uses Musk’s X algorithm to communicate with the public! Good job guys.

If the CEO of a soda company declared that soda-making technology is getting so good it’s going to ruin the global economy, you’d be forgiven for thinking that person is either lying or fully detached from reality...

The official advice is just to close your eyes and pretend none of this is happening
WELKER: Trump promised he was going to improve the economy on day one. What's your message to Americans who want to retire and have just seen their lifetime savings drop significantly?

BESSENT: Most Americans who have put away for years in savings accounts don't look at the day to day fluctuations

the loomer stuff tracks with my broad framework of the world since 2015 where any morally bankrupt person I reflexively feel is supremely unworthy of my attention ends up being somebody who i am professionally forced to pay lots of attention to for years and years

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

it makes sense. their entire belief structure is petty grievance, "owning the libs" and being "smarter" than all the youth who are "falling for it" etc, that when they see someone handing out Ls to a bunch of college kids, it codes conservative to them, actual content is irrelevant.

The whole MAGA ascendancy has been staged entirely like a WWE script-- particularly this time around with literal Linda McMahon as Sec. of Education.
It’s a whole group of people who are watching pro wrestling and not able to process that it’s fake. I suppose this goes farther than the manosphere, too. I see so many influencers where it’s clearly bullshit but you can see people buying into it.

The closing thoughts to the March 12, 2024 episode of Better Offline ( www.betteroffline.com ) ring pretty awful these days.

Thanks @edzitron.com for this amazing show. I'll catch up to the current-day episodes in a couple years. Hopefully we're rid of this situation by then... ;)

This Cybertruck did not crash. It made a heartfelt and perhaps ill-advised gesture that, in the moment, might have been misinterpreted as a crash, but we should not rush to judgement.
