Brutal but effective public health messaging from New York Public Health.

The CDC is compromised. They’re no longer a reliable source of information.

They push anti-vaxx & anti-science grift.

Get your vaccines. Wear a respirator. Clean the air

Get public health advice from experts, not RFK Jr

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

I’m not a psychologist or a sociologist so all this is amateur but I’m still amazed at the lack of pride these people have. It’s been about ten years of watching people first indulge, then debase, then dedicate themselves to a clown. It still blows my mind.

Rufo's problem is his job is giving the right's most reactionary ideas the valence of intellectual rigor for more liberal audiences, but his base audience wants nothing to do with that kind of respectability politics. He's the pornographer that imagines himself to be a great auteur

There are two competing national journalism modes right now.

1. Politics Is Wacky Fun With No Real Outcomes Nor Consequences

2. "Why does my life suck so hard," farmer/nurse/teacher wonders
I could pluck any of a hundred different stories off the news wires on this, and you'd be hard pressed to find a single one that clearly hints at the fact this is about corruption and unchecked corporate power, much less that it's going to kill people
The Supreme Court case that could hand Trump unchecked power to fire agency heads
The court will decide if presidents can fire agency heads at will.

This is exactly what the bosses who put Trump into office were trying to achieve. Crushing the tight labor market from the early Biden years that gave workers - for the first time in my adult lifetime - leverage over their bosses.
NEW

US labor market flows remained sluggish in October data released this morning, as hiring slowed to nearly the lowest level since early COVID

The hiring rate fell to 3.2%, layoffs rose to 1.2%, quits fell to 1.8%, and job openings rose to 4.6%

The issue with Neoliberalism isn't that it doesn't work, it's that it only works once. You can sell the family silver once, you can strip the copper out of the walls once, you can burn the furniture to keep warm once. But then you have to come up with something else!

there are of course many examples of political constituencies that have in fact killed scores of children (en route to some other evil goal), but I can't offhand think of any historical examples of a political constituency organized for that specific purpose
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

For untold years the elite grift has depended on acting like we all believe the same things. Turning on a dime to "No it's fine, you can say slurs now, King President can install a Dave & Busters in the White House if he wants" fucks the whole game up. They haven't realized this yet, but they will.

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.

This is a story about how America’s world-leading cancer and dementia research system was destroyed by frauds and naifs who broke the law.

There must be consequences.
Some incredible details in this piece
*one DOGE faction was planning the future of the US government at a venture capital firm
*illegally communicating on Signal to avoid transparency laws was deeply embedded into organizational culture to be taken for granted
