This month in @damemagazine.bsky.social I wrote about the siege of Chicago, what it feels like to live here, about the violation of the ICE invasion and the gratuitous violence of the president against a city he's hated for years:

This is my thing. Nothing in the last year would have happened if 5 GOP senators had caucused with Democrats but there's nobody screaming in their faces every Sunday about it. We always have to clean up after the Republicans.
The craziest part is that Republicans could’ve ended the shutdown on their own anytime they wanted. 50 senators is all it would take.

But they didn’t feel like it. Which is accepted as a premise, so fixing things becomes Democrats’ responsibility, and apparently enough Democratic senators agree.

We can compromise down to fair trials.
This is why they were in downtown Chicago today.

"one agent shouted, “Everyone say, ‘Little Village!’”"

Nuremberg Trials are the moderate stance

The rare HELL YEAH FUCK YEAH from the Supreme Court.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court denied an attempt to challenge Obergefell v. Hodges, the case affirming marriage equality nationwide.

Our freedom to marry remains the law of the land.

The contrast could hardly be sharper. My friends and neighbors, armed only with whistles and voices, spend their weekend fighting off heavily-armed paramilitary goons. Meanwhile, these jagoffs capitulate, but not before securing another $1 billion for their own security.

Everything is trash but my neighbor has put out his Xmas decorations and they're glorious.

He has Black Santa, white Santa, Winnie the Pooh, Mickie Mouse, some drummer boys, Black Jesus, white Jesus, snowmen, Hello Kitty. This year he added a capybara and some human-sized nutcrackers. I love him.

"The Bible told me not to eat with Jews" is actually the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life.
When your "I'm not antisemitic, it's just that ..." defense is "if we push back too hard on antisemitism I might have to eat dinner with some Jews and that would contradict my faith" ...
