They are actually crossing the $2 billion mark this fiscal—a cool $13,333 per bused student, a figure that will easily rise to $15,000 by the end of the deal

Yonkers spends $5,500 per student, someone who knows how to budget this* please help NYCPS

Israel launched a wave of air and artillery strikes that killed at least 25 people in Gaza on Wednesday, according to local health officials, after the military said “several terrorists” had “opened fire toward the area.”
Israeli strikes kill at least 25 people in Gaza despite ceasefire
The deaths added to a growing toll of Palestinian casualties since a U.S.-backed ceasefire in Gaza went into effect last month.

DAILY NEWS GETS ACTION:

MTA board just approved a $7.4 million contract for new subway wheels after NYCT says it knows what caused the Daily News' mystery wheel-wear scoop from January: Trains were going too fast around curves.

The $7.4M will get New Yorkers 3,000 new wheels from Standard Steel.

A mysterious track defect somewhere along a major New York City subway line is wearing out the wheels on subway cars, causing a shortage of trains on the lettered lines, the Daily News has learned.

Cannot wait to see this work continue down to Grand Army Plaza next year with the block-long, concrete bus boarding islands, which will really make Flatbush feel much calmer and help pedestrians cross more easily.
We're a little shy of two months into the new Flatbush Ave center running bus lane fragment and it seems like drivers have largely gotten the message:

🚌 FEAR THE BUS LANE. RESPECT THE BUS LANE. 🚌

why? the state can regulate what kind of car you are allowed to register. no intelligent speed assistance, no plate.

pretty remarkable contrast between WMATA pushing for full automation on the DC metro, while NY legislators and unions try to mandate *two* employees per train
Major announcement in just-posted board documents: DC's Metro is moving fast toward automation.

Over 15 years, Metro plans full automation & platform screen doors, which the agency says will improve safety, reliability, & travel times—at reduced costs.

It will depend on activists and many more people backing him up, but I think @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has the chance to be a truly transformative mayor when it comes to streets. Just dusting off some stalled projects in his first 100 days would go a long way toward changing things for the better.

I'll be beating this drum constantly between now and April:

Zohran must play nice with the governor to advance his agenda. But our task, at the grassroots, is to use Hochul's fear of losing re-election to push her incessantly and publicly.

Well done on climate, Third Act 👏
“'She did not just approve a fossil fuel project. She made a moral choice,' Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado (D), who is primarying Hochul, said on Monday. 'New Yorkers deserve a governor who does not treat the climate crisis as a PR problem, but as a test of moral leadership.'”
Hochul enrages environmentalists with shift to ‘all of the above’ energy policy
Democrats are focusing on affordability over climate goals as midterm elections loom.
