🧵 Four years ago today, a Benz driver struck and killed Xing Long Lin, a Chinese delivery worker riding a scooter in Astoria. DA Melinda Katz refused to acknowledge the devastating loss suffered by Lin’s family and declined to hold the killer accountable. Please remember him.

Reported the jerk business on my walk to the gym that didn’t shovel their sidewalk so it’s currently a sheet of ice— they typically park 3 SUVs on the sidewalk, forcing people with strollers and mobility devices into the street just to pass 👍

Dude’s charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident [sic], and failure to yield to a pedestrian. Good. It’s a start. He should also lose his vehicle and his license, and the city should immediately install raised crosswalks citywide.

It is heartbreakingly cruel that a woman is simply walking across the street to get to where she’s going, and in seconds, she’s gone. Another SUV driver has killed an innocent person in NYC in a crosswalk. A family is about to have the worst holiday season of their lives.

He was allegedly watching a video on his phone, just like 90% of drivers that I witness as I bike next to them. Regardless of his legal status, he drove while distracted, a systemic yet normalized problem that our transportation authorities have failed to address.
