Two fantastic transit ideas — fast and free buses, and a 17-percent expansion of subway mileage — are being set up as adversaries. But they're complementary.

Early concerns suggested congestion pricing could worsen traffic in the Bronx, Brooklyn and New Jersey.

Bloomberg reviewed the data and found drivers outside the congestion zone are actually seeing benefits.

@dannyintransit.bsky.social is right that we should have both affordable transit and active plans to expand NYC's rail system.

But it's hard to picture a realized free bus program now, following recent budget presentations by both Mayor & Governor
Is Mayor Mamdani’s free bus plan the best use of $1 billion a year? One transit think tank has an alternative (and very ambitious) proposal: expand the subway! Agree or disagree, it’s nice to dream - take a look at the new lines they would build

Anne Hidalgo's positive impact on Parisian public space has been huge.

But the ultimate significance of her leadership on mobility justice is global: demonstrating what is possible really highlights the commitment of other mayors to convenience for car owners at the expense of everyone else.
“The transformation is astonishing. [Paris] has quietly—& quickly—become one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. What started as a series of emergency ‘coronapistes’ or pop-up bike lanes, built during the pandemic has evolved into a permanent bike network spanning hundreds of kilometres.”
