i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.
We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

The big county I was waiting for in New Jersey, Passaic County, which is 42% Hispanic. We have 95% of the vote in and this is what it will end up:
2020 President: D+16
2024 President: R+3
2025 Governor: D+15
There is a ton of evidence that Hispanics in 2025 shifted hard back to Democrats.

If it hasn't been done already, somebody should do a write-up on the importance of typeface. That folksy, colorful font he used was A) immediately recognizable and B) obviously inspired by the hand-lettering you see in the windows of NYC delis and bodegas. I want the Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou essay
if anyone had bothered reaching out to the Latino vote in these areas they would know Biden deporting Latinos left and right then Kamala saying she was going to be the same if not worse did not help win her case as a last minute stand in, all that was left was the maga latinos going to the polls
