A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

Taking VIA Rail train to Prince Rupert, BC, I got a surprise when I stopped at the North Pacific Cannery. In the museum, I got to go within the Lionel ‘O’ gauge layout model built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad Society. Loved the fact that full-sized freights pass by outside! www.highspeed.blog

These declines are MASSIVE.

And the comparative silence in media coverage is absolutely DAMNING.

“Why are ppl always so afraid of crime?”

THIS is why. When crime goes up, media trips over itself to report it.

Falls to pre-war (!!) levels? Just CRICKETS.
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

It turns out vehicular traffic does something else, too, more subtle but equally pernicious: It changes the way children see and experience the world by diminishing their connection to community and neighbors.

Picturing one of the stunt Ivankas in his employ dutifully typing this out, wondering when it will end.
Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

The designer of Times New Roman, Stanley Morrison, was a conscientious objector in 1916 and was imprisoned for his pacifist beliefs.

These dipshits can't even vice signal without screwing it up.
Times New Roman is an imported font, developed for London newspaper The Times in 1931. You know what American-designed font cooked up in 1994 would be perfect for this regime? Comic Sans.
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move

Think much of the over-parenting we despise stems from the early on fear of the driver.
If parents weren't terrified of our streets kids would have so much more freedom and independence which might get them comfortable with their children's ability to navigate the world without them.

The richest "capitalists" today don't really invest in capital, the means of production. They invest in hype cycles. 🧵
Introducing a new series on Tech Policy Press, Andreu Belsunces Gonçalves examines how hype operates within venture capital and private equity and why it has become such a powerful political instrument. The orientation provided by AI hype is guiding us towards an oligarchic future, he writes..

I know everyone is dunking on the robot here but look at how much space is devoted to cars in this scenario. The sidewalk should be bigger and the road smaller.
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

Une allocation au lieu d’un stationnement fourni?
Peut être la CAQ aurait pu penser à ça avant de décider que la priorité du projet réfection de HMR c’est un immense stationnement.
Ça devrait être généralisé partout au Qc.
WORKPLACE PARKING. Has anyone heard of an employer paying people a daily sum, which if you drove went towards your parking space and if you didn't drive went into your pocket? I'm sure I've heard of somewhere doing this, but cannot remember where I heard it

how about mass manslaughter? I think it conveys the cruelty and intent quite well?
Elon Musk and the Trump administration gleefully shutting down USAID “has already caused the deaths of six hundred thousand people, two-thirds of them children.”

People throw around terms like genocide quite freely online but it’s hard to find other words to describe this level of man-made death.

Love the intercity train arriving at the same time! Great timing
#Montreal 's just leap-frogged other cities in North America by opening the REM.

Automated. Electric. Frequent (2.5 minute headways). Fast (100 km/h plus). Cheap to build. (One tenth the price of other systems)

And really fun to ride...
