The thing is, I have always assumed that everything I do online is visible to everyone, esp those with root/admin access, so this is really NBD to me.

I am not dismissing anyone else's concerns about this, if it needs saying. We call make our calculations. For example, I don't run Chrome.

I was never on the LessWrong forums, but I spent way too long paying attention to the weird group of SSC-related rationalists who kept forming schism communities because mods wouldn't let them be racist enough.

Really not a big fan of the way Trump has brought the into the limelight.

Similarly not a big fan of the way LLMs have given the MIRI weirdos more prominence.

I dread the day someone IRL asks me to explain Yarvin or Yud to them.

I went to college with Curtis Yarvin. I have enough nerd cred that Curtis is only the 3rd most famous person I've played Quiz Bowl with, but he is such a paradigmatic case of nerdrage that I want to shove him into a locker.

It's honestly wild that the VP nominee and a 600k word Harry Potter fanfic can both be traced to the same internet subculture.

Right. The second question is also tough because it's possible to lean liberal on certain issues and conservative on others.

it’s the same with classical music. the masterpieces get played over and over because they are legit masterpieces. then there’s a second tier of really great stuff that wouldn’t be on jeopardy

it takes effort to find room for anything else. you need a celebrity conductor or soloist to champion it.

I’ve said this a million times, but I’m genuinely frightened about what Musk’s fascist propaganda network is doing to do to our politics.

I really wish someone, anyone, would come up with a collective strategy to get journalists, organizers and elected officials off the platform.

One of the liberties we have is that of association - we can choose who are friends are for any reason or no reason. The same is true of enemies. And here on social media, where the social network takes on aspects of both a place and angry god, that ends frequently in shunning and exile.

do you know a savvy <30s who'd wanna meme to defeat project 2025?
hello new followers! if you found me via my request for assistance to create Project 2025 Memes…

please reply below if you’re interested in helping with either research/planning, writing, design, meme seeding, etc

we’re going to set up a slack channel 💜
yes! awesome.

i think the power move here is to create meme graphics that can be shared in various groups eg i found posts against project 2025 in my celiac group, bc of the food label shit they’re pulling

it has HUGE potential to reach normies and even people who otherwise might vote trump
