But before we get to that, let's talk about how great conservatives are at Cutting Waste, Fraud, and Abuse™!

"New College now spends more per student than any higher education institution in Florida by an order of magnitude, but ... has dropped 60 spots in the US News & World Report rankings ..."
This was not the worst thing about this article by any means, but given all of the errors of omission, taking the time to point out that some of the New College new faculty have Ivy League degrees is incredibly funny

I don't like her. I don't trust her. I think she's stupid. I think she only opens her mind when something affects her personally. I will be glad when her toxic ass is gone from Congress.

Nevertheless, this is a surprisingly good read.

From the middle of a really helpful thread by @daveweigel.bsky.social on the Minnesota aid fraud scandal.

The first post of the thread is here:

But step back and look at the machinery and you see how sturdy this media/WH infrastructure is. If they want to make a humiliating Democratic scandal the biggest story in the country, they can do it. Dems who think it'll go away if they "win" with local media are going to lose.

This. So much this.

Now you know why I spend so much time fact-checking reposted meme slop from Occupy Democrats and similar.

It hurts us to spread lies. And we don't need to: the truth has a well-known liberal bias.
“A populist—like Trump, like Modi, like Putin—is, above all, a gifted storyteller who can tell a false story well. The only way a populist can be fought is by telling a true story better.”

Cool thread!

I knew about the first thing, but not about the next two.

I was thinking about what gifts people used to give to readers (besides gift editions of famous poets' work and illustrated histories of wars and such), and while I was thinking about it, somebody brought a book to the counter....

There is a user named @1000knives.bsky.social who has 5 followers, 2 following, and 8 posts.

This user has created a blocklist and added me to it.

I just don't understand this mentality.

From a look at all of the reposts on 1000knives's feed, I'd say there is a chance that this account is 1/2

I've asked elsewhere that people stop treating this new euphemism with respect. I wish I had said it this well.

(Short thread also, if you click through.)
'Heritage American,' noun.

1) An American insufficiently committed to the founding values of the United States.
2) An American actively betraying those principles.
3) A white supremacist euphemism used by [2] to mean 'white people.'

All right, get it out of your systems. But come the new year, please, stop. It's really annoying after about the third repetition.

Wow. I remember when Taibbi was one of the good guys.

Sounds unbelievably slimy in these email exchanges.

h/t @donmoyn.bsky.social
I just think it’s wild that a “journalist” who literally cuts emails in half to lie ab his targets, gets dates & stats wrong, actively goes out of his way to smear people, & doesn’t issue corrections is playing victim.

I have several posts ab him on this Substack. open.substack.com/pub/reneedir...
