Due to a pet sitter cancellation I am doing some last minute pet sitting for a neighbor and few animals seethe with ancient and incandescent rage quite like elderly Chihuahuas

Senator Jen McEwen, HERO from DULUTH, landing in the middle of the urban highway juggernaut, THANK YOU for asking these important and pointed questions about @mndot.bsky.social's Rethinking I-94 process.

I see people musing that the vibe here has changed, and I would urge people to remember that there's a lot of anxiety about the change of administration in two weeks and that's going to leak into a lot of other places in one's life. Be as gracious as you can with yourself and others.

One thing we need to talk more about is how great transit also allows people to save money.

I spent $2,879 this year on transportation, or $240 a month. That's less than my student loan payment.

This rant cut straight to the core. I resent that we need to research every app, every service before using them. How long are they going to exist? How much data are they doing to collect and sell? We should not need to be experts in the VC/PE landscape to go online.

Sewing is one of my favorite new capabilities in recent years. Just being able to mend fabric objects opens up a whole world.

Backpack stitches failing, ski glove closure fell off? Easy fix. Line ‘em up and add a tally to the ‘sewing machine justification’ list.

I wish Amtrak had a way to get a full night's sleep on overnight trips. The price would be so much easier to justify if it wasn't paired with having to wake up at 3am and figure out how to exist at the destination.

31mph on a ring highway?!

Imagine if the urban highways that cut THROUGH U.S. urban cities (not just around them) were at this speed limit.

Makes you think about what’s possible re: I-94…

I'm not a radical. I just want transportation officials who say true things like "urban interstates were a big mistake, ripping canyons of polluted death trenches through neighborhoods, and we truly regret ever having done it... But there's no way we're not going to rebuild the whole thing bigger."
MnDOT analysis shows that I-94 expansion is better for bikes and pedestrians ("meets purpose and need") than replacing with an at-grade boulevard option. Proving that there's nothing that a larger urban freeway can't solve. Or their analysis is cooked.

Genuinely grateful that I get to live and work in Minneapolis. Plenty of room for improvement, but we’re moving in the right direction and there are very few big cities in the US that can compete.
