The EPA and American Lung Assn. don't agree: are vehicle emissions worse near highways or near slower streets? And since there's so much disagreement, why would we summarily reject a highway-to-boulevard conversion without critical studies and modeling? (Blog post from 2017, updated 2023.)
Highway Air Pollution and Your Health: Six Things You Need To Know
Labor Day weekend is a prime time for vacations, which means many people will be traveling by car in the coming days. While everyone loves a good road trip, pollution near highways can have serious he

Did Men Ruin This Country for Women?
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
Record Numbers of Younger Women Want to Leave the U.S.
The percentage of younger women in the U.S. who express a desire to migrate permanently has surged in the past decade.

Are you shocked at how many people in your state are hungry, or at least at risk of malnourishment? The SNAP debate opened my eyes. 440,000 Minnesotans get a little more than $5 per day for food because they're unsuccessful in our wicked, victimizing capitalist system.

Forced car dependency robs society of any chance at financial freedom. America doesn't have a "love obsession with cars", they simply have not been given a choice.

"mile wide swath of blight between downtowns"

Interstate 94's gift to Minneapolis and Saint Paul since 1968.

Ready to do something about it?
And the ongoing cost to the effected communities is quite large. The mile-wide swath of blight between downtowns is an ongoing economic drag on the cities. We know so much more now about the health effects of the emissions on the surrounding areas. And we've put so many thousands of our

It took me some time to come around to this conclusion, but once you see it, it seems so obvious. The vast majority of freeway traffic between the downtowns is local, so little is freight, and the through traffic really can go around. The actual value of this segment of 94 smaller than assumed.

So on Epstein, the Democratic position should be "Trump should resign." If you are a Democratic elected, practice saying "We demand the president's resignation" in front of a mirror as many times as it takes until the dry-heaving that comes from having a phobia about actually doing politics passes.

I-94 through Mpls-StPaul is such a disaster. I've lost friends over my position that it should be removed and replaced with better transportation, housing, business and recreation options. It inflicts unrelenting ugliness and tragedy on our communities. Do we intend to remain car-dependent victims?

Lack of hyper-attentive constituent service has been the downfall of many a great city councilmember, particularly women, who are supposed to care about the often ridiculous things their entitled constituents bring to them.
i look forward to seeing how elizabeth shaffer, someone whose only work history we know of is the park board for the last 4 years, handles being customer service for perhaps the most obnoxious constituents in all of minneapolis who were trained by lisa goodman to contact them for anything

I regret missing the @ourstreetsmn.org-organized rally to save studying at-grade options in the #RethinkingI94 project. I was on a driving odyssey, weirdly enough, and witnessed some hard lessons about traffic speed, traffic throughput and economic success.
