Regret to share that I’m suspending my campaign for Park Board in order to prioritize my health, my full-time job, and other prior commitments.

I greatly appreciate the guidance and support that I received from so many of you over the past 3 months!
I don’t see evidence to support this. Cashman/Burnett losses the biggest counterpoints. Progressive pickup in W8 would have happened regardless. Council already swung left w/o a mayoral race in 2023, now Park Board got their turn. 2021 had backlash to skyrocketing crime amidst Defund Police
A few post election thoughts:

1. Progressive wins in Mpls council and park board races was greatly aided by a robust mayoral race. In that sense Fateh, Davis, and Hampton assisted the overall mission. 4 years ago Frey won the council along with reelection. This time he won but lost down ballot.

54.3% of Ward 7 voters picked Frey as their first choice — Frey’s best Ward outside of Ward 13 — so while Katie Cashman did slightly outperform the Fateh/Davis/Hampton trio, it wasn’t enough.

Moderate-vs-Left council races that diverged the most from first-choice mayor votes in same ward:
W3 (Rainville +24 over Frey)
W4 (Vetaw +15 over Frey)
W10 (Millard +11 over Frey)
W1 (Strahan -9 compared to Frey)
W12 (Thompson -8 compared to Frey)
W8 (Bassais +6 over Frey)
W2 (Madore +5 over Frey)

Voter #14 at 3-08 in Minneapolis. Beautiful morning to rank my favorites!

4:3 conversion on Lowry from 94 bridge to the river bridge! Nice safety improvement for all road users by the county, using only paint adjustments. Closes a bike lane gap where you previously had to ride a narrow sidewalk.

Pink Brony Club? Candy Cowboy?

All I know is that I had a rootin’ tootin’ heckuva good time riding the Scaredy Cat alley cat ride/race put on by Bonesaw. And don’t worry, that’s just dried jackfruit (my secret weapon) in my holsters.

This is part of why I don’t view Sen. Fateh as a “Minneapolis Mamdani”. I haven’t seen much evidence that Fateh is willing to reassure voters that he won’t implement far-left policy as Mayor (on police, encampments, rent control, etc.). That makes it significantly harder for him to win.

Bummer they can’t upgrade the venue for Geese on the 18th. Lowest resale ticket is $473 right now.

Making a list of Minneapolis parks where I’ve seen the bike parking completely full:
1) The Trailhead at Theo Wirth
2) Lake Nokomis west beach
3) multiple beaches at Cedar Lake

What else should I add to my list??

Got to join local running legends Courtney Dauwalter and Carrie Tollefson for a shakeout trail run + podcast interview at Theo Wirth last night!

Courtney is possibly the best female ultramarathon runner ever, and is stepping outside her comfort zone to try the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday!

It used to be rare to have other bike riders waiting at a red light with me downtown, but I feel like I’ve been seeing it a lot more often.

Maybe something to do with in-office mandates? In any case, I enjoy having active-transportation buddies.

This is one of my favorite times of year because a ton of bike infrastructure projects are wrapping up. 10 of the 32 Twin cities projects I’m tracking for 2025 are now ready to ride!

My tracker spreadsheet is now up-to-date! Great for brainstorming Autumn rides 🍁

Found this pristine 70’s polo (in my size) for $9 at a local thrift store.

Minneapolis-based Munsingwear introduced the extremely popular Original Penguin golf shirt in 1955 for $5 — equivalent to $60 today.

New section of Minnesota River Greenway is now rideable gravel! (Just don’t go there during weekday construction.)

If you don’t want to bike all the way down there, the Blue Line or Orange Line can get you much closer to the trailhead :)

The new multi-use path along the north side of Lowry Ave NE is now open from Central to Johnson! (This was Phase 2; Phase 1 from Washington to Central was completed last year.)

Just did a 2-week Norway road trip in an EV! Their cities and roads are noticeably quieter, charging infrastructure is everywhere and relatively cheap.. it’s just a normal part of life!
It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.

Ready for a Tour de Francis, where you would bike back and forth between the two Francis Burger Joint locations in Minneapolis, eating a burger or chicken sandwich at each stop.

Am I the only one who wishes there was a “neither” option?

At least 5 intersections fully flooded on the west side of the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood this morning.

City workers wading through the water to remove manhole covers for faster drainage.

So much opportunity to improve phone notifications about high AQI. I only knew it was 160 because my block looked hazy and I checked my phone. Crossed Stone Arch on my bike commute and I was the *only* person wearing a mask, out of hundreds!
So, “my location” seems to have the worst air quality in all of America right now.

Crossed the 10,000-mile mark on my e-bike last week! Battery hasn’t degraded much, says it’s still at 90%. 2020 Specialized Turbo Vado SL.

Heard a rumor that Stone Arch is on track to reopen in August 👀
