Congrats to the newly-elected board of @eastbankmpls.bsky.social, which represents far more residents than any other neighborhood org. After staying on board to help with the merger of neighborhood orgs, I’m grateful to these wonderful volunteers — the org is in (many) good hands!!

The park formerly known as Marcy is now officially Dinky Park! Thanks to neighbors who picked the new name, thanks to @eastbankmpls.bsky.social for leading the charge, and thanks to MPRB for approving the change.

4:3 conversion on Lowry from 94 bridge to the river bridge! Nice safety improvement for all road users by the county, using only paint adjustments. Closes a bike lane gap where you previously had to ride a narrow sidewalk.

Pink Brony Club? Candy Cowboy?

All I know is that I had a rootin’ tootin’ heckuva good time riding the Scaredy Cat alley cat ride/race put on by Bonesaw. And don’t worry, that’s just dried jackfruit (my secret weapon) in my holsters.

This is part of why I don’t view Sen. Fateh as a “Minneapolis Mamdani”. I haven’t seen much evidence that Fateh is willing to reassure voters that he won’t implement far-left policy as Mayor (on police, encampments, rent control, etc.). That makes it significantly harder for him to win.

Making a list of Minneapolis parks where I’ve seen the bike parking completely full:
1) The Trailhead at Theo Wirth
2) Lake Nokomis west beach
3) multiple beaches at Cedar Lake

What else should I add to my list??

Got to join local running legends Courtney Dauwalter and Carrie Tollefson for a shakeout trail run + podcast interview at Theo Wirth last night!

Courtney is possibly the best female ultramarathon runner ever, and is stepping outside her comfort zone to try the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday!

It used to be rare to have other bike riders waiting at a red light with me downtown, but I feel like I’ve been seeing it a lot more often.

Maybe something to do with in-office mandates? In any case, I enjoy having active-transportation buddies.

Munsingwear was once the largest employer of women in the state. According to @vincempls.bsky.social they made all of the underwear for the Allies in WWI. You might know their building as International Market Square, on Glenwood along 94.

Found this pristine 70’s polo (in my size) for $9 at a local thrift store.

Minneapolis-based Munsingwear introduced the extremely popular Original Penguin golf shirt in 1955 for $5 — equivalent to $60 today.

New section of Minnesota River Greenway is now rideable gravel! (Just don’t go there during weekday construction.)

If you don’t want to bike all the way down there, the Blue Line or Orange Line can get you much closer to the trailhead :)

Ready for a Tour de Francis, where you would bike back and forth between the two Francis Burger Joint locations in Minneapolis, eating a burger or chicken sandwich at each stop.

At least 5 intersections fully flooded on the west side of the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood this morning.

City workers wading through the water to remove manhole covers for faster drainage.

Crossed the 10,000-mile mark on my e-bike last week! Battery hasn’t degraded much, says it’s still at 90%. 2020 Specialized Turbo Vado SL.

Just saying that the trend is positive, so I’m hesitant to pursue “radical” changes. If/when police do good investigative work to solve past shootings and gun crime, that is one of the factors that prevents more future shootings from happening.

Mpls crime stats update for end-of-May: Even with two mass-shooting events in the last 5 weeks, overall shooting victimization is still down 25% YTD vs last year (107 vs 143).

Murders down 32% YTD vs last year (21 vs 31).

Both similar to ~20% decline nationwide.

Cool road-to-path conversion just west of downtown Chaska.

No driveways on this section.. prone to flooding and erosion.. so they just turned it into a beautiful creekside bike trail with two dead-end roads on either end for local access.

And it’s not just the Wedge.. 12-month-sum of Minneapolis robberies has not been this low since June 2020.

Carjackings (255 of those 1,436 robberies) also lowest they’ve been since MPD began tracking them separately.
